Upcoming ‘Jurassic Park’ Sequel Will Ignore the Events of ‘Rebirth’

After Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) shook the cinematic landscape last year, grossing $869.1 million worldwide, many fans have been left wondering if future stories will continue with the film’s mutant dinosaurs and new islands, in the same way the Jurassic World trilogy focused on genetic hybrids, human clones, and world-changing storylines.

While another film (which is reportedly in development at Universal) will likely put the spotlight back on Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) and the events depicted in last year’s sequel, the next Jurassic chapter won’t follow the 2025 film in any way, shape, or form.

Instead, the upcoming first-person action-adventure video game “Jurassic Park: Survival” is a direct continuation of Spielberg’s 1993 classic.

Set just 24 hours after the park failure, as seen in the original film, the game follows Dr. Maya Joshi (performed by Payal Mistry), an InGen scientist stranded on Isla Nublar. Players will navigate a world filled with iconic dinosaurs and recreated environments, including the Visitor Center, the T. rex paddock, and the jungles beyond the fences.

By acting as a prequel to everything from The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) onward, the game allows players to experience the park as it existed in its purest form. And, just like the 1993 film, the focus is on survival — evading predators, conserving resources, and making strategic choices — as opposed to the cinematic spectacle of the “World” films.

Dinosaurs will also be highly intelligent and unpredictable, and every step carries risk, reflecting the tension that made the original film iconic. Check out the official cinematic trailer for the game below to get an idea of how players will experience familiar scenarios:

Set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, “Jurassic Park: Survival” promises a return to form — a chance to explore Isla Nublar without the narrative baggage of the six movie sequels. For fans craving a survival experience grounded in the terror, wonder, and unpredictability of the original film, this is the perfect reset.

It remains to be seen whether the game will arrive before the next film sequel, but as that project hasn’t been officially announced yet, it looks like we’ll be going back to the “Park” era long before the next “World” installment hits theaters.
