Minnie Mouse and More Disney Pals Barred from Magic Kingdom Meet and Greet
Okay Disney fam, we need to talk about what just went down at Magic Kingdom because Pete’s Silly Sideshow is officially CLOSED as of January 4th, and honestly? It’s a miracle it stayed open as long as it did. If you’ve walked past this tent structure anytime in the last six months, you KNOW what we’re talking about. The thing was literally falling apart, looking more like a circus disaster than an actual circus attraction. Disney finally pulled the plug and shut it down for what they’re calling a “refurbishment,” but let’s be real, this is full-on damage control for a building that should’ve been fixed months ago.

For anyone who hasn’t been paying attention to the slow-motion deterioration happening in Storybook Circus, Pete’s Silly Sideshow is that air-conditioned tent where you can meet Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy all dressed up in their cute circus outfits. It’s been one of those reliable character meet spots that parents absolutely LOVE because you’re not standing in the Florida sun watching your kids melt while waiting to hug a person in a fur costume. The tent setup meant air conditioning, shade, and a controlled environment where you could actually meet multiple characters without losing your mind. Sounds perfect, right? Except the tent itself has been literally deteriorating in real-time, and Disney just kept running it until the situation got so bad they had no choice but to close the whole thing down.
The timing of this closure is WILD too because Magic Kingdom is already dealing with what feels like half the park being under construction or closed for refurbishment. Big Thunder is down, Buzz Lightyear has been gone forever, the entire Frontierland area is basically a construction zone for the upcoming Cars Land, and now Pete’s Silly Sideshow joins the party. At this point, planning a Magic Kingdom trip feels less like vacation planning and more like navigating a construction schedule. But honestly, if you’d seen the condition of this tent, you’d understand why they couldn’t wait any longer. We’re talking visible damage, weathering, tears in the fabric… it was BAD, people.
What’s Actually Happening Right Now

So here’s the current situation: Pete’s Silly Sideshow closed on January 4, 2026, and construction walls are supposedly showing up this week to completely block off the whole structure. Right now, the closure is scheduled through early March 2026, but anyone who’s followed Disney construction knows that timeline is basically a guess. Once they start ripping things apart, who knows what they’ll find? The Florida sun and humidity do NOT play nice with tent materials, and this thing has been exposed to the elements 24/7 for YEARS.
The main focus seems to be fixing the actual tent structure itself rather than changing anything about the character experiences or theming inside. So assuming everything goes according to plan (big assumption), you’ll eventually get the same meet-and-greet setup but with, you know, a tent that isn’t actively falling apart. Revolutionary concept, we know.
As for the characters that normally hang out inside Pete’s Silly Sideshow? They’re being relocated to “other areas within Storybook Circus,” which is Disney speak for “we haven’t figured out exactly where yet, but check the app.” Space is pretty limited in that corner of Fantasyland, so expect outdoor meet-and-greet setups or the characters rotating through other spots in the park. Either way, you can still meet them, you’ll just have to hunt them down like a character scavenger hunt.
But Wait, There’s MORE Tent Drama Coming
Here’s where this story gets even better: Pete’s Silly Sideshow is just the BEGINNING of tent refurbishment drama in Storybook Circus. Permits filed back in October 2025 show that Big Top Souvenirs (the nearby gift shop with the same tent-style construction) is ALSO getting a major refurbishment. Disney hasn’t announced when Big Top is closing yet, but smart money says it’s happening right after Pete’s Silly Sideshow work wraps up.
This makes total sense when you think about it. Both buildings use similar tent materials and construction, both have been exposed to the same brutal Florida weather, and both have been showing signs of wear. Disney’s clearly doing a “fix all the tents” project, they’re just staggering the closures so they don’t shut down the entire area at once. Because that would be TOO convenient for planning purposes, obviously.
Oh, and there’s been some damage spotted at Dumbo the Flying Elephant too, though that attraction apparently uses different materials than the tents. Whether Dumbo ends up needing similar work remains to be seen, but at this rate, the entire Storybook Circus area might be under construction by summer.
Magic Kingdom’s Closure Situation Is Getting RIDICULOUS
Let’s take a moment to appreciate just how MANY things are currently closed at Magic Kingdom right now, because the list is actually insane:
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been down since late 2025 for “significant track work and enhancements.” Spring 2026 is the target reopening, but we’ll believe it when we see it. Losing one of the park’s signature coasters for months is NOT ideal.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been closed since MID-2025 for upgrades. That’s like, half a year or more at this point. Also aiming for Spring 2026, which better happen because people are getting impatient.
The Walt Disney World Railroad is running in shuttle mode (just Main Street to Fantasyland) because the Frontierland station is closed for the Cars Land construction project. So you can’t even do a full loop around the park anymore.
Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island? GONE indefinitely for the same Cars Land expansion. These are CLASSIC attractions that have been part of Magic Kingdom since day one, and they’re just… closed. No reopening date. Nothing.
The TRON Lightcycle Run overlay with the TRON: Ares theming is ending in Winter 2026, so if you liked that, enjoy it while it lasts.
And if you’re staying at Wilderness Lodge, heads up: exterior refurbishment work is happening through late 2026, which means noise and construction views. Fun times!
So yeah, Pete’s Silly Sideshow closing is just one more thing on an already VERY long list of closures. Magic Kingdom is basically a theme park crossed with a construction site at this point.
Should You Even Visit Right Now?
Look, here’s the honest truth: visiting Magic Kingdom during this period is going to be different than what you might expect from watching YouTube videos or reading old trip reports. A LOT of stuff is closed. Like, a genuinely concerning amount of attractions and experiences are unavailable right now.
BUT (and this is important), that doesn’t automatically mean your trip will suck. Sometimes having fewer attractions open actually means shorter lines for everything else, especially if you’re visiting during a traditionally slower period. If you can be flexible about your must-do list and focus on what IS open instead of obsessing over what’s closed, you might actually have a great time.
For Pete’s Silly Sideshow specifically, the characters are still meetable, they’re just in different locations. It’s annoying to have to track them down, but it’s not like they disappeared entirely. Check the My Disney Experience app religiously and you’ll figure it out.
The bigger question is whether all these closures happening simultaneously represents good planning by Disney or if they’re just cramming too much maintenance into one season. You could argue they’re finally investing in aging infrastructure and preparing for exciting new expansions. Or you could argue they should’ve been maintaining this stuff all along instead of letting it get to crisis point. Both perspectives have merit!
What do YOU think about Magic Kingdom’s current closure situation? Are you Team “This Is Necessary Maintenance” or Team “Why Is Everything Closed At Once”? Drop a comment below and let us know if these closures would stop you from booking a trip right now, or if you’re the type who just rolls with it and makes the best of whatever’s available. We genuinely want to know how people are feeling about all this because the opinions are ALL over the place and we’re here for the discussion!
