Disney World Theme Park To Close in Days as Christmas Nears

Cooler air and shifting weather systems have increasingly shaped operations at Walt Disney World Resort as December continues across Central Florida. While Florida winters are often mild, recent forecasts signaled conditions that required close monitoring—especially for outdoor and water-based experiences.

Weather outlooks issued last week by Click Orlando outlined an unsettled stretch beginning over the weekend. Scattered showers were expected to move into the region on Saturday, December 6, before rainfall became more widespread on Sunday, December 7. Forecast models showed rain chances rising from about 30 to 50 percent by Saturday afternoon, increasing further to nearly 80 percent late Sunday. While thunderstorms were not expected to be widespread, isolated activity remained possible.

Alongside increased rainfall, a noticeable drop in temperatures was also forecast. After highs hovered in the low to mid-80s for several days, Sunday’s daytime temperatures were projected to fall into the mid-70s. By early the following week, cooler air was expected to settle in, with highs ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s and lower overnight temperatures across Central Florida.

Click Orlando attributed the changes to a sequence of weather systems passing through the state. “From Saturday through Monday, a sloppy weather pattern settles in,” the outlet reported. “The weak front over North Florida sags into Central Florida and gradually fades, while another low-pressure system takes shape along the northern Gulf Coast on Sunday. That developing low will then help pull a stronger cold front through the region late Sunday into Monday.”

These developments were closely followed by Walt Disney World guests, particularly those planning to visit Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Earlier in the holiday season, weather had already impacted operations. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Typhoon Lagoon temporarily closed as cooler temperatures arrived, highlighting how quickly weather can affect water park schedules.

With forecasts calling for one to three inches of rainfall in some areas—especially north and west of the I-4 corridor—similar outcomes seemed possible. While Typhoon Lagoon continued to list operating hours for the following week at the time, Disney has historically modified water park operations when rain, wind, or lower temperatures raise concerns around comfort and safety.

Those expectations were realized shortly after. Typhoon Lagoon closed on December 11 and December 12 as cooler, wetter conditions settled into the region, matching earlier concerns tied to the forecast.

Now, just days after reopening, the water park is set to close again. The official Walt Disney World Resort website shows “No Times Available” for Typhoon Lagoon on Monday, December 15, 2025. Updated forecasts suggest the decision aligns with incoming conditions.

“As the cold front arrives on Sunday, expect a few more clouds and the chance for isolated showers, mainly along the coast late in the day,” Click Orlando stated in its most recent outlook. “By Monday, Central Florida will likely wake up to chilly and breezy conditions. North winds are forecast to pick up, ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph possible.”

These closures may affect guests planning to use the complimentary water park entry perk tied to check-in dates. With Typhoon Lagoon unavailable, attendance is expected to increase at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios as visitors adjust their plans.
