Refurbishment Timeline Keeps Stretching

The Magnolia Bend section of Port Orleans — Riverside has been under refurbishment since May 2025. Initially, Disney’s plans suggested that renovations would be completed by January 2026, but that timeline has already shifted multiple times. First, completion was moved to February 2026. Now, Disney has updated its schedule, confirming that construction will continue through August 2027.

Disney’s official notice states:

“From early May 2025 through August 2027, Guest rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside will undergo refurbishment throughout different parts of the Resort hotel. During this time, Guests may see or hear construction work in the area.”

The expanded language suggests that Disney’s updates are no longer limited to Magnolia Bend, meaning more rooms and areas of the resort will likely see renovations.

Impact on Guests

For travelers planning a stay at Riverside, the extended construction timeline could mean a less-than-peaceful experience. Guests may encounter noise, limited access to certain sections of the resort, and visible construction crews throughout their visit. Families or those seeking a relaxing hotel environment might want to consider other Disney properties to avoid potential disruptions.

Disney has not shared specifics about the final look or features of the renovated rooms, leaving many to speculate whether guests will see minor updates or a full redesign. Regardless, it’s clear that the resort will be in a state of transformation for more than two years.

Broader Changes Across Disney World

Port Orleans — Riverside isn’t the only area experiencing change. Disney World is in the midst of extensive expansion projects across the resort. Three of the four theme parks are receiving new lands and attractions, Disney Springs is introducing new interactive experiences, and multiple hotels are undergoing updates. While these improvements promise enhanced experiences for the future, they also mean that guests must navigate a Disney World that’s in active construction for the foreseeable future.

Travelers should keep a close eye on Disney’s refurbishment schedules when booking accommodations, as changes can significantly affect which areas of the resort are quieter or more impacted by construction at any given time.

Looking Toward the Future

While extended construction timelines are inconvenient for current visitors, they indicate Disney’s ongoing investment in improving its resorts. Once complete, the renovations at Port Orleans — Riverside could offer refreshed rooms, upgraded amenities, and a revitalized guest experience. Until then, patience is key—guests who love Riverside’s charm may need to wait until August 2027 to see the fully realized vision.

Disney World visitors are reminded that while the parks and resorts continue to evolve, planning ahead can help minimize disruptions and ensure the most magical stay possible.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
