‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Experience Arrives at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Few Christmas films have endured with the same warm-hearted charm as The Muppet Christmas Carol. Since its release in 1992, the movie has become a seasonal favorite for its clever retelling of Charles Dickens’ timeless festive tale—infused with Muppet humor, heart, and memorable songs.

But despite the Muppets’ strong ties to Disney, the film has never received its own dedicated presence in the Disney Parks lineup.

That absence becomes more visible when you consider the recent closure of Muppet*Vision 3D earlier this year. The shutdown left a void for Muppet fans, especially as the theater, along with the rest of Grand Avenue, makes way for the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed land.

With that chapter now closed, many fans and parkgoers alike are wondering where the Muppets will show up next in the parks.

Thankfully, Kermit and the gang will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is re-themed, which means that the Aerosmith branding will be completely removed to make way for the Muppets and the rock band, Electric Mayhem.

But as exciting as the new makeover is in its own right, one can’t help but wonder about a possible Muppet Christmas Carol seasonal overlay.

While nothing has been even remotely hinted at by Disney, the beloved 1992 film has already found its way into Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Not in a big way, but it’s a start.

The Muppet Christmas Carol appears in a new holiday exhibit at Walt Disney Presents.

Above the doorway into Walt Disney Presents, you’ll see a picture of Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog) with Tiny Tim (Robin the Frog) on his shoulder, as seen in the film, accompanied by the signs “Special Exhibit Disney Holiday Films” and “Disney Takes a Holiday” — the latter being name of the exhibit. Inside, you’ll find a seasonal display of the film featuring:

  • Costumes from The Muppet Christmas Carol, including the Charles Dickens outfit worn by The Great Gonzo, Rizzo the Rat’s attire, and ones worn by Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim
  • A detailed, miniature-scale model of one of the village house sets scene in the film
  • Pictures from the 1992 film

You can view these images on WDWNT.

Other films whose props and costumes are on display are The Santa Clause, Noelle, and Babes in Toyland. In addition to the exhibit, there’s a Santa Claus meet and greet and the theater is showing holiday shorts like On IcePluto’s Christmas Tree, and The Art of Skiing.

Whether or not this is a sign of things to come where The Muppet Christmas Carol is concerned remains to be seen. For now, it’s likely more than enough for fans who were forced to say goodbye to the park’s staple Muppets experience earlier this year.
