Four New ‘James Bond’ Projects Explained: Plots, Trailers, Cast, and More

The James Bond franchise is entering an unusual phase, with four confirmed 007 projects.

The upcoming film reboot, directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight, is expected to fully reinvent the character for a modern audience. However, casting for the next 007 won’t begin until Villeneuve has completed work on Dune: Part Two next year.

Meanwhile, IO Interactive is launching “007 First Light” in March 2026, a third-person action-adventure game starring Patrick Gibson as James Bond.

“Players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite secret agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story,” IO Interactive’s official synopsis reads.

Supporting cast members include Lennie James as John Greenway, Noémie Nakai as Miss Roth, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Priyanga Burford as M, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Gemma Chan as Selina Tan. Despite the high-profile cast, IO Interactive has confirmed that the game will define its own 007 canon, independent of the upcoming film reboot.

The literary side includes Vaseem Khan’s “Quantum of Menace” and M.W. Craven’s upcoming “James Bond and the Secret Agent Academy”.

Both are also explicitly standalone entries: “Quantum of Menace”, available now, focuses on Q, while Craven’s YA novel, set for release in June 2026, turns Bond into a mentor at a spy academy.

Fans can now look forward to multiple versions of James Bond across these storytelling mediums, but each exists in total isolation. Unlike Marvel or DC, where shared universes are the norm, these four projects signal a fragmented approach: separate iterations of the iconic MI6 superspy for different audiences, rather than a single unified franchise.
