Disney’s Castaway Cay Director Fired After Being Accused of Raping a 29-Year-Old Guest

Allegations Against Disney Executive

Gursel Sahibas, the director of Disney’s Castaway Cay, is at the center of serious allegations involving sexual misconduct. A 29-year-old woman from Florida accused Sahibas of raping her while they were on the beach of Disney’s private island in September 2025. According to the police report, the woman claims she repeatedly asked Sahibas to stop as he allegedly groped her in the ocean. Following the incident, she returned to Florida and filed a complaint with the Bahamian authorities a week later.

The Royal Bahamian Authorities promptly referred the complaint to the nearest police force, the Great Abaco Police. Sahibas was subsequently arrested and charged with rape and indecent assault. Following his arrest, he appeared in court, where a judge set his bond at $15,000, allowing him to return to the UK on the condition that he appears for a hearing scheduled for January 2026. His attorney, Tamika Roberts, emphasized Sahibas’s desire to return home, citing his British nationality.

At 65 years old, Sahibas has been identified as a high-ranking employee at Disney. Following the emergence of these allegations, Roberts confirmed that he was terminated from his position as director of Disney’s Castaway Cay shortly after the allegations became public. This incident raises concerns about employee conduct and the safety protocols in place at Disney’s vacation properties.

Immediate Response from Disney

Disney swiftly responded to the serious allegations by terminating Sahibas as the director of Castaway Cay. This action was part of the company’s efforts to address the accusations and uphold its commitment to safety and ethical conduct within its operations.

The incident has raised significant public safety concerns regarding Disney’s approach to guest safety. The private island, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and tropical charm, is now under scrutiny, as guests question the safety measures in place. As a popular destination for families and cruise guests, safety concerns on Disney’s Castaway Cay could impact the overall guest experience.

In light of the allegations, Disney released a statement emphasizing its commitment to a thorough investigation into the incident. The company reiterated its commitment to providing a safe environment for both guests and employees. Disney acknowledged the serious nature of the allegations and assured the public that it would cooperate fully with investigators.

Community Impact and Reactions

The accusations have had a profound impact on the local community in the Bahamas, where Disney’s Castaway Cay plays a significant role in the economy and community livelihood. Residents have voiced concerns over both the allegations and the safety of the island, recognizing that incidents like this can tarnish their community’s reputation and negatively impact tourism.

Reactions from guests who frequent Disney’s Castaway Cay have varied. Many expressed shock and disbelief at the serious allegations against a high-ranking employee. Guests have taken to social media to discuss their safety and potential changes to their future travel plans. Some have called for increased transparency and safety measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

This incident poses a critical challenge for Disney, which prides itself on family-friendly entertainment and experiences. The allegations against Sahibas could potentially erode trust among patrons who expect safety and integrity from one of the largest entertainment corporations in the world. Maintaining a positive image will require Disney to not only resolve the legal issues but also take proactive steps to reassure customers and the public.

Upcoming Legal Developments

A court hearing has been scheduled for January 21, 2026, where both the prosecution and defense are expected to present their arguments. The outcome of this hearing may significantly impact the trajectory of the case and its implications for all parties involved.

Should the court find Sahibas guilty, he could face serious legal repercussions, including imprisonment. A conviction could also spark further scrutiny of Disney’s management practices and policies regarding employee conduct. Conversely, if he is acquitted, the case may still have lingering effects on Disney’s image.

Regardless of the legal outcome, the allegations against Sahibas have exposed vulnerabilities in Disney’s operations. The company may need to reassess its training and policies to prevent future incidents while prioritizing the safety of its guests. Moving forward, Disney’s response will be crucial in either mitigating damage to its brand or facing potential long-term repercussions in the highly competitive tourism and entertainment industry.

  1. This should cause us to be concerned about the types of people that Disney has and is hiring throughout its properties. A rape could happen at a Value resort or around the Villas. I should feel safe while at Disney. I no longer do.

  2. Not surprised so many are already finding the man guilty before he’s even had a chance to defend himself. Also, plot holes. Why did she wait a week after returning home to report this? Any “evidence” of the incident is now gone. Proper way, contact police immediately, go to the hospital immediately. You don’t wait a week. Nothing in this article points to any evidence being given, just a witness’ statement. As a woman, my first action would have been to call for help, seek help, preserve evidence to get a slime bag away from other women. Not go home and mull it over for a week. So now it’s more of a he said, she said case, not based on facts or evidence. And just because you are in the “Disney Bubble” does not mean the outside world does not exist. Things still happen, and it is up to you to be vigilant with your safety. This is something I’ve always done in all the years traveling to Disney or Universal.

    1. Shut up. You have no idea what happened, he is guilty. He was fired and Disney performs internal investigations with FBI resources.
