At Universal Orlando Resort, change is constant. In just a few short years, the resort has seen sweeping transformations that redefined its place in the Central Florida theme park war.
The opening of Epic Universe in May 2025 marked the resort’s biggest expansion to date. Meanwhile, the original Universal Studios Florida park has undergone its own shifts. In August, the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster closed permanently, with demolition already clearing the way for a rumored Ghostbusters attraction.
Family audiences also received a new addition. DreamWorks Land opened in 2024, offering meet-and-greets and colorful attractions tied to Shrek, Trolls, and Kung Fu Panda. It replaced Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone, a space that had grown outdated. The reception was mixed — some praised its family appeal, while others criticized it as feeling less polished than Universal’s marquee lands.
Against this backdrop of reinvention, Universal has now pressed pause on one of its most visible entertainment offerings.
Mega Movie Parade Put on Hold
The Universal Mega Movie Parade, which debuted in July 2024, has been canceled effective immediately.
Universal has confirmed the show will not return until late October 2025 due to in-park maintenance along the parade route.
The decision came abruptly, surprising guests who expected the daily production to continue for the next 14 days through the busy fall travel season as guests flock to the park for Halloween Horror Nights. The company’s official account stated the parade is set to resume on October 22, though this date is subject to change.
The parade has been a cornerstone of daytime entertainment since its launch. With more than 100 performers, the production highlights Universal’s film catalog with floats and show elements themed to franchises like Jurassic World, Ghostbusters, E.T., and Trolls.
“Your favorite movie characters leap off the screen and spring to life in a daytime parade,” the company says on its website. “Excite all your emotions as you feel the roar of the T. rex, enjoy the adventure of E.T., embrace your true colors with Trolls and more. You’ll laugh, you’ll cheer, you’ll relive memorable movie moments the whole family can enjoy.”
Entertainment Gap in Orlando
The suspension underscores the challenges of operating large-scale entertainment inside a functioning park. Universal has not specified what maintenance triggered the move, but logistical upgrades to parade routes are often tied to safety and infrastructure.

While its absence is temporary, the hiatus removes a signature piece of Universal’s daytime experience during a season when competitors like Disney rely heavily on parades to anchor guest flow and crowd management.
Without it, Universal leans even more on thrill rides and live shows to sustain momentum.
