Daisy Ridley Rumored To Make Surprise Return to ‘Star Wars’ Before Rey Movie

Daisy Ridley’s time as Rey Skywalker in Star Wars may not be over just yet. Despite the polarizing reception of the sequel trilogy, new rumors suggest that Ridley could make her return sooner than expected—possibly in Shawn Levy’s upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter.

The sequel trilogy made billions for Disney but split audiences in a way the franchise had never seen before. The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019) in particular drew heavy criticism for inconsistent storytelling and a lack of character depth. At the center of much of that debate was Rey, a protagonist who was often accused of being written with little struggle or growth compared to Luke Skywalker’s arc in the original trilogy.

Still, Rey has her supporters, and Disney has already announced a film centered on her future beyond the sequels. That project, set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will take place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker as Rey attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. But the film still has no release date attached, leaving questions about whether it’s actually happening.

Now, attention has shifted toward Levy’s Starfighter, which is scheduled for May 28, 2027. Starring Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray, the film is described by Disney as a standalone story set five years after The Rise of Skywalker. While further details remain scarce, a new rumor suggests that Gosling plays a pilot tasked with protecting his Force-sensitive nephew (Gray) while being pursued across the galaxy, while Amy Adams—who has officially been cast alongside the two—is rumored to play the boy’s mother, a Jedi.

According to The Hot Mic’s John Rocha (via ComicBook.com), “The main kid is Force-sensitive. His mom is being played, as we said, by Amy Adams. She seems to be a Jedi. Gosling is not a Jedi, but he’s helping his nephew escape two evil bad guys who are chasing him across the stars. He has a mission he’s on, given to him by Adams.”

Additionally, YouTube channel Echo Base Network says there are rumors that Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker could appear in the film.

The possibility of Rey appearing in Starfighter would give Lucasfilm a chance to reintroduce the character in a supporting role rather than carrying an entire film. It would also create a natural link to the later movie about the new Jedi Order, perhaps even leading into that story at the end.

However, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has confirmed Ridley’s involvement.

Rey continues to appear in other projects, though, from animated shorts to video games, proving the character still resonates with parts of the fanbase. Whether that extends to the big screen again remains to be seen.

For now, Starfighter is locked in for 2027, with The Mandalorian & Grogu landing in theaters first in May 2026. Rey’s next live-action appearance is still up in the air.
