A new chapter is opening for the Disney Store brand as The Walt Disney Company has announced an upcoming expansion that blends decades of retail heritage with a fresh collaboration.
Beginning November 6, 2025, Selfridges locations in London, Manchester, and Birmingham—along with Selfridges.com—will host “A Most Magical Christmas.” This limited-time event will showcase over 60 brand collaborations, 18 themed windows, a striking façade, and two unique versions of the famous Selfridges yellow bag. Disney Parks Blog confirmed the news, calling the project “first of its kind.”
But guests eager for Disney fun won’t need to wait until November. Starting September 22, 2025, Selfridges London will debut a dedicated Disney Store space inside The Corner Shop, alongside a Harry Lambert for Zara x Disney residency.
This isn’t the first time Disney and Selfridges have joined forces. In the 1960s and 1970s, Disney characters graced the entrances of the British retailer, making the new collaboration something of a homecoming.
The Disney Store has always carried a legacy of innovation. Its first shop, which opened on March 28, 1987, at the Glendale Galleria in California, introduced themed shopping as an extension of the Disney experience. From the “magic mirror” to animated features and merchandise tied directly to films, TV, and theme parks, the stores quickly became a cultural staple. By the mid-1990s, locations across the U.S., Canada, and international markets made Disney shopping a phenomenon.
Over time, the brand weathered several transformations. After The Children’s Place acquired the North American chain in 2004, quality and performance slipped. Disney reacquired the stores in 2008 and launched the “Imagination Park” redesign in 2010, adding interactive spaces, large video screens, and immersive elements.
More recently, the rise of e-commerce and the pandemic led to most standalone stores in North America and Europe closing in 2021, shifting focus toward shopDisney and retail partnerships like Target’s “shop-in-shop.” Today, flagship locations in New York and London keep the physical legacy alive, while online and in-park offerings bring the magic to fans everywhere.
With “A Most Magical Christmas” now on the horizon, the Disney Store story is once again expanding—bridging its rich history with a new global stage.
