Third Avengers Campus Incoming, Disney Reveals New Marvel Expansion Details

Disney has been steadily weaving Marvel into its theme parks for over a decade, from character meet-and-greets to fully fledged lands. At Disney California Adventure, Avengers Campus launched in 2021, followed by Walt Disney Studios Park (soon to become Disney Adventure World) in Paris a year later. Now, eyes are turning toward Asia, where Marvel’s footprint is growing fast.

New Marvel Update On The Way For Disney Theme Park

Hong Kong Disneyland celebrates its 20th birthday today, and to mark the occasion, it has unveiled new concept art for a major expansion of its Stark Expo area in Tomorrowland. While the park has long offered Marvel attractions, including Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle, the new additions point to something much larger — a possible third Avengers Campus.

The fresh artwork from Disney includes exterior shots of a towering new structure branded with the Avengers logo, alongside a nearby building labeled “Research Testing Labs.”

Additional concept art released this week teases what guests might encounter on the new Spider-Man attraction, which has been confirmed for the expansion. One image shows riders traveling through a glowing portal, guided by Thor himself. Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Spider-Man appear alongside him, with Asgard visible in the distance.

Another piece of artwork depicts Spider-Man battling Doc Ock, a scene Disney previously confirmed as central to the new ride. According to the company, Peter Parker will debut as a Stark Industries intern, unveiling new inventions before things go sideways. Guests will then be drawn into a showdown that forces them to fight alongside Marvel’s heroes.

Disney describes the project as an expansion of Stark Expo rather than opening an entirely new land. Yet with the addition of this new attraction, new shops, and epic entertainment, the scope is beginning to look far larger than a simple update.

At present, Stark Expo already offers guests two Marvel-based adventures. Iron Man Experience, which opened in 2017, sends riders soaring through Hong Kong with Tony Stark (who is notably not voiced by Robert Downey Jr. in the ride) in a 3-D motion simulator. Nearby, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle! shrinks guests down to battle Hydra swarms with high-tech blasters.

The question is whether this development should be considered Avengers Campus 3.0. While Disney has not officially branded it that way, the combination of immersive attractions, character encounters, and Marvel-specific theming mirrors what’s already been established in California and Paris.

For Hong Kong Disneyland, the timing couldn’t be more strategic. The resort is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and Disney continues to invest heavily in new offerings across the park – such as the first-ever World of Frozen in 2023 – as it continues its efforts to maintain profitability after a rough few post-pandemic years. Bringing in even marquee Avengers experiences ensures the park appeals to Marvel fans from around the world.

Further afield, Anaheim’s version of Avengers Campus is also expanding. The area is doubling in size with two new rides. Avengers Infinity Defense will send guests across Marvel worlds to battle King Thanos, while Stark Flight Lab places riders in two-person pods for a high-tech flight test (with Downey Jr. actually returning as Tony Stark this time around, unlike the Iron Man Experience).

The exact opening timeframe for this expansion is unclear, but construction officially went vertical in August. Hong Kong Disneyland’s expansion opening date is also hazy, with the park shuttering its railroad to prepare for construction this year.
