Multiple ‘Harry Potter’ Characters Recast for All Seven Installments
The Wizarding World is preparing for a major return in an unexpected form, as Audible unveils its ambitious “Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions.”
While HBO’s new Harry Potter series continues to make headlines as it builds its ensemble cast, the television adaptation remains a distant release. Production has begun, but Warner Bros. has yet to announce when the show will debut. In the meantime, Potter fans will experience the saga in an entirely different medium.
Audible’s project promises a sweeping reinterpretation of J.K. Rowling’s original seven novels, with some big names stepping into iconic roles. Hugh Laurie will lend his voice to Albus Dumbledore, Riz Ahmed will portray Severus Snape, Michelle Gomez takes on Minerva McGonagall, and Matthew Macfadyen voices Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort.
The central trio will be reintroduced through new performers, including a crossover with the HBO adaptation. Frankie Treadaway voices Harry Potter, Max Lester joins as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton portrays Hermione Granger–a role she will also play in the upcoming live-action series.
“These brand-new productions of the original seven stories by J.K. Rowling will showcase the listening experiences as never heard before,” Audible stated. “Offering immersive audio entertainment through high-quality sound design in Dolby Atmos, stunning scoring, captivating performances from A-list actors, original music, and real-world sound capture.”
Per Deadline, several additional actors have now joined the project, including Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley, who takes on the infamous role of Professor Dolores Umbridge. In the films, Imelda Staunton brought the character to life, and now Knightley’s interpretation will be heard in Audible’s series.
The roster expands further with Kit Harington as Professor Lockhart, Iwan Rheon as Professor Lupin, Ruth Wilson as Bellatrix Lestrange, Ambika Mod as Nymphadora Tonks, Leo Woodall as Bill Weasley, Simon Pegg as Arthur Weasley, James McAvoy as Mad-Eye Moody, Gemma Whelan as Professor Sprout, and Matt Berry as Sir Cadogan.
Neil Blair, Chairman of Pottermore Publishing, described the new audio editions as a “sophisticated, immersive audio experience,” adding, “J.K. Rowling’s storytelling lends itself perfectly to the application of new audiobook technologies, and we’re certain this sophisticated, immersive audio experience will not only add a new listening dimension for existing fans but will introduce a whole new generation of listeners to the wizarding world.”
Following the first three installments, the core trio roles will transition to Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis beginning with “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

Despite ongoing enthusiasm for the Wizarding World, the franchise continues to face debate due to Rowling’s outspoken views, particularly surrounding transgender rights. While controversy remains, the Harry Potter name continues to drive new projects and high-profile talent.
The rollout of all seven audiobooks is already set: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” arrives November 4, 2025, followed by “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” on December 16, 2025, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” on January 13, 2026, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” on February 10, 2026, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” on March 10, 2026, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” on April 14, 2026, and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” on May 12, 2026.
