Magic Kingdom Bulldozes Iconic Chill Spot Without Warning
For years, guests wandering through Tomorrowland knew exactly where to find a quick snack, a refreshing mist, and a funky spaceship parked right on top of a popcorn stand.
That spot—Cool Ship—wasn’t the biggest or flashiest feature in Magic Kingdom, but it was weird, nostalgic, and very Tomorrowland.
Now? It’s a pile of dirt.
A Wave of Change Hits Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom has been in renovation overdrive lately. Big names like Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and the Liberty Belle Riverboat have all shut down for good, shaking up the quieter side of the park. But this time, the wrecking ball swung across the hub to Tomorrowland—and took out a fan-favorite with it.
Cool Ship, which closed for a “temporary refurbishment” back in May, has now been completely bulldozed. Gone is the mist-blasting red ship kiosk that once sat across from Space Mountain. In its place? Trenches. Dirt. Construction walls. And a lot of confused fans wondering what just happened.

Was It Just a Snack Stand?
Technically, yes. But Cool Ship was more than popcorn and Mickey bars. It was the kind of detail that made Disney feel charming and lived-in. The mist helped guests cool off in the Florida sun, and the retro spaceship atop the stand gave the area some quirky personality. Rumors always floated around that the ship was repurposed from an old attraction—though Disney never confirmed it.
It might not have been an e-ticket ride, but Cool Ship was part of the soul of Tomorrowland.
What’s Coming Next?
Disney isn’t saying. They’re still calling the removal “temporary,” which seems a little ironic now that bulldozers have leveled the area. But with Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin set to be overhauled and Astro Orbiter just finishing up major work, there’s no denying that Tomorrowland is entering a new era.
The sleek, tech-forward vibe that came with TRON Lightcycle / Run seems to be spreading, and the oddball corners that made the land fun are starting to vanish.
Some Disney fans are mourning what feels like the latest in a string of losses. First Splash Mountain, then the Liberty Belle, now Cool Ship. It’s starting to feel like all the quirky side attractions and chill zones are being wiped out.
Others are hopeful. Tomorrowland has always felt a little patchwork, and maybe this is part of making it feel more cohesive. Still, it’s tough to see something familiar suddenly gone without a whisper of warning.
