Fans Spot a Long-Lost Pirate Legend Returning to Magic Kingdom

If you’ve ever walked through Adventureland and wished you could step even deeper into the lore of Pirates of the Caribbean, you’re in luck.

Disney just pulled back the curtain on a brand-new experience that does exactly that—and fans have already spotted a familiar face making a surprise return.

The new tavern, called The Beak and Barrel, is set to open later this year and it’s shaping up to be far more than just a themed lounge. It’s a full-on immersive experience, rich with story elements, hidden treasures, and enough pirate charm to make you forget you’re just steps away from Dole Whip.

But what really has longtime Disney fans buzzing? One particular detail inside this pirate hideaway: the return of the infamous Barker Bird.

Yes, That Barker Bird

Perched just above the bar is a wisecracking parrot named Rummy—and he’s not entirely new. Rummy is modeled after the Barker Bird who once stood outside the Pirates of the Caribbean entrance, greeting guests with cheeky banter before quietly disappearing from the parks years ago. Now, he’s been given new life and a whole new backstory as the first mate to Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, the legendary founder of this in-universe pirate tavern.

For fans who remember the original animatronic parrot, this is a fun nod to Disney history. And for those who don’t? Rummy is a standout personality on his own—chatty, mischievous, and always watching.

A Story-Driven Pirate Pub

The Beak and Barrel is divided into areas like the Captains’ Booths, the Mapmaker’s Room, and “The Mess,” which Imagineers describe as an old Spanish soldiers’ dining hall now overtaken by pirates. Every room is packed with details: shipwreck wood furniture, slashed portraits, melted candlewax, and even a skull-shaped stern anchoring the bar itself.

You’ll also find a mysterious enchanted rum bottle—courtesy of Tia Dalma from the Pirates film franchise. That magical bottle is said to fuel some of the tavern’s more mystical surprises, and there’s already speculation that it’ll be part of the story-driven moments guests will witness during their 45-minute reservation at Magic Kingdom.

Immersion Overload (In the Best Way)

Beyond the drinks (and yes, there’s a two-drink limit), the tavern will offer live storytelling, sing-alongs, and interactive props that might just respond when you least expect it. And while this isn’t a character meet-and-greet space, it feels like something straight out of the movies—a hidden corner of Adventureland where the pirate tale keeps growing.

With no official opening date yet, fans are already planning their return voyages just to experience it. Between the immersive theming, magical moments, and nostalgic character resurrection, The Beak and Barrel is shaping up to be the Magic Kingdom’s next must-visit stop.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
