Haunted Mansion Shutdown: Disney Guests Escorted off Ride

On June 19, several Magic Kingdom Park guests were escorted off the Haunted Mansion after the attraction “failed.” One of the riders shared their experience on social media.

The Haunted Mansion has long been one of the most iconic attractions at Magic Kingdom Park, opening in 1971 as part of Walt Disney World Resort’s original roster of rides. The Liberty Square attraction has always blended the spooky and whimsical, providing a family-friendly haunted experience for Disney Park guests. The attraction continues to thrill visitors, but occasional technical difficulties are to be expected, especially after over 50 years.

Usually, pauses on the Haunted Mansion are resolved quickly, with brief stops typically accommodating guests with disabilities. However, in this case, the ride was shut down for an extended period, resulting in an evacuation. Disney Park guests are often used to short delays, but this incident lasted long enough for the family to be evacuated from their Doom Buggies, which were stuck in the graveyard scene.

In the video shared by TikTok user @taylorwolfe256 on June 19, several Doom Buggies are frozen in place, with the overhead lights indicating the ride was down for an extended period. As the family finds themselves stuck on a backward incline into the graveyard, the experience becomes uncomfortable for everyone, especially with toddlers in tow. After a while, Disney cast members arrive and escort the family off the ride.

Walt Disney World Resort typically doesn’t provide detailed information on ride breakdowns, and no specific details about the malfunction were shared in this case. However, the attraction did reopen and continued to operate as usual in the days following the shutdown.
