If you’ve been soaking in the Florida sun and hopping between Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, you’ve been part of something that hasn’t happened since 2019—both Disney water parks operating at the same time. But that rare combo is winding down soon, and guests with fall vacations might want to adjust their plans.
According to Disney’s latest operating schedule, Blizzard Beach is set to close after Sunday, September 7, 2025. Starting Monday, September 8, the chilly-themed park will go into its usual off-season break, with no hours posted through the end of November.
Disney hasn’t spelled out why this closure is happening, but based on years of tradition, it looks like a standard seasonal refurbishment. The two water parks at Walt Disney World—Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon—typically alternate being open, giving each one time to undergo maintenance and refresh its look for the next wave of visitors.
Still, this fall’s closure stings a little more than usual. Why? Because it took years for both water parks to operate together again. Since the pandemic, Disney had only been opening one water park at a time. It wasn’t until earlier this year that guests were finally able to choose between Typhoon Lagoon’s tropical theme or Blizzard Beach’s snowy slopes. And now, that luxury is going back into hibernation.
For many families, this change might mean rethinking their water park strategy. If you were hoping to try both parks on your next vacation, you’ll need to fit Blizzard Beach in before September 7. After that, Typhoon Lagoon will be the only option available—at least for the rest of the year.
The upside? Disney is still running a perk for resort guests: complimentary water park access on check-in day. That little bonus might help soften the disappointment for anyone missing out on the full two-park experience.
Of course, nothing’s been officially announced in terms of a refurbishment or reopening timeline, but if past years are any indication, Blizzard Beach could reopen in late 2025 or early 2026. Once that happens, it’ll likely be Typhoon Lagoon’s turn to get some TLC.
If you’ve had your eye on racing down Summit Plummet, floating through Cross Country Creek, or enjoying those ski-themed water slides one last time this year, now’s the time to make it happen.
And remember—while water parks might not be the main event for every Disney guest, they offer a unique kind of magic. There’s nothing quite like cooling off under the sun at a Disney water park, especially when crowds at the main parks get overwhelming.
So check your calendars, double-check those park hours, and adjust your plans if needed. The water may still be warm, but Blizzard Beach is headed back into the deep freeze for a bit.
