Happy Pride: Decades-Old Disney Ride Gets Rainbow Makeover

This June, Disneyland Park’s iconic Matterhorn Bobsleds underwent a beautiful transformation in celebration of Pride Month, marking the third year of the Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite event.

The Pride Nite event, which first debuted in 2023, celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community in a family-friendly, Disney-filled atmosphere. This year, the Matterhorn Bobsleds were illuminated with a stunning rainbow projection, giving the iconic ride a dazzling makeover all night long. The celebration also included live entertainment, exclusive character meet-and-greets, photo ops, and, of course, reduced attraction wait times.

Pride Nite has become a standout annual event at Disneyland Park, with its first official celebration taking place in 2023. The event has its roots in the longstanding history of LGBTQIA+ gatherings at Disney parks, which began with the first Gay Days events at Walt Disney World Resort in the early 1990s. These gatherings later expanded to Disneyland Park, where they’ve continued for over 25 years.

For three years, Pride Nite has been a space for LGBTQIA+ Disney Parks fans and their allies to come together, donning rainbow colors and celebrating inclusion in a magical, family-friendly setting. Disneyland Resort has long been known for offering Pride-themed merchandise, snacks, and treats throughout June. However, this exclusive after-hours event has taken it a step further, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity that can be felt throughout the park.

The Matterhorn Bobsleds, one of Disneyland’s most beloved and historic attractions, has been a staple of the park since its opening in 1959. While this is not the first time Disney has adorned the ride with rainbow colors for Pride, the 2025 design marked a new, vibrant take on the tradition. A Reddit user, u/disneyfacts, shared a photo of the Matterhorn Bobsleds during this year’s event, showcasing the stunning rainbow display with the caption:

Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite 2025 has come to a close. The Southern California Disney park has not yet released dates for Pride Nite 2026, but fans are encouraged to keep an eye on the resort’s website for updates. Unlike Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort has yet to host a similar after-hours Pride event.
