EPCOT’s Space 220 Cuts Lunch Service Indefinitely: What’s Really Going On?

If you’ve been hoping to dine among the stars during lunchtime at EPCOT’s Space 220, you may want to rethink your plans. The highly immersive restaurant located next to Mission: SPACE has quietly suspended its lunch service, shifting to dinner-only hours for the time being.

What’s Happening With Space 220?

A Cast Member from Guest Relations confirmed that the change is due to ongoing lobby floor refurbishments at the restaurant. For now, Space 220 is only open for dinner, beginning at 4 p.m. daily, with no current option for walk-up reservations. While Disney’s official calendar still shows lunch hours available through the rest of April, the reality is that only dinner will be served until further notice.

Disney has not provided a specific timeline for when lunch might return, but guests with upcoming EPCOT visits should double-check their reservations and monitor the My Disney Experience app for any changes.

Pricing May Be a Hidden Factor

Though refurbishments are the official reason for the schedule shift, some fans are speculating whether the steep lunch prices may also be influencing the decision. Lunch at Space 220 is currently priced at $55 per adult for a two-course prix fixe menu, and $29 for kids. That’s a hefty cost for a midday meal, especially for guests who are already budgeting for Lightning Lane Multi Pass and other extras during their park day.

For comparison, dinner at Space 220 is even more expensive, at $79 per adult for a three-course meal — but most guests expect dinner to be a splurge. Lunch, on the other hand, often gets viewed as a quicker, more affordable option, making that $55 price tag harder to swallow for families of four or more.

With food and beverage prices continuing to climb across the parks, Disney may be re-evaluating what mealtime experiences guests are most willing to pay premium prices for.

Dining Costs Across Disney Are Rising

Space 220’s price point isn’t the only one giving guests pause. Over the last couple of years, Disney World has gradually increased food prices resort-wide — from snacks like popcorn and Dole Whip to prix fixe character meals. It’s not unusual to see a quick-service meal for one person top $20 with a drink, while table-service restaurants often go well beyond $40 per person before tax and tip.

As vacation budgets get stretched thinner, many parkgoers are opting for more affordable dining options or sharing entrees to save money. Some families are even skipping table service meals altogether — particularly when the experience doesn’t feel like a must-do.

A Look Back at Space 220

Space 220 opened in September 2021 with lots of buzz and fanfare. Guests board a “space elevator” that simulates a journey 220 miles above Earth to dine in a futuristic space station, complete with floating astronauts, Earth views, and spacecraft gliding past.

The experience is among the most visually stunning in Walt Disney World — and that ambiance is a big part of what you’re paying for. The lounge inside Space 220 also offers à la carte options and unique cocktails, and remains open alongside dinner service.

For now, if you’re hoping to dine at Space 220, be aware that lunch isn’t currently being offered. While refurbishments may be behind the limited hours, the restaurant’s high price point likely plays a role in Disney’s decision to focus on the more lucrative dinner crowd.

We’ll keep an eye out for any updates, including when lunch might return — and whether this signals bigger changes for prix fixe dining across Walt Disney World.
