After Canadians Cancel Disney Vacations, EPCOT Walls off Canada Pavilion

A mysterious construction project has taken over Canada World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT, and Walt Disney World Resort isn’t saying a word. As Disney erects more construction barriers, Canada is making headlines in the theme park community for an entirely different reason—a wave of vacation cancellations from Canadian Disney Parks fans.

EPCOT World Showcase Pavilion Sees More Walls Go Up

The Canada World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT has been under construction since June 2023, but guests are now noticing even more barriers and scaffolding in the area. What started with brown construction walls near the Trading Post merchandise location has expanded to scaffolding and a newly boarded-up section of the pavilion, blocking access to the Hotel du Canada facade.

Recently, Disney added plywood walls, and a piece of paper was spotted attached to one, which some speculate could be concept art for the ongoing project. According to WDWNT, the area is filled with ladders, trash bins, and a gray structure covered with a blue tarp.

While construction crews have been seen working during park hours, Walt Disney World Resort has yet to acknowledge what exactly is happening in the Canada Pavilion. Adding to the mystery, Disney filed a permit earlier this year to “Install Signage” in the area, suggesting that the blocked-off section will eventually be accessible to theme park guests.

Political Tensions Impact Disney Travel

While EPCOT’s Canada Pavilion is changing, so too is Canadian tourism at Walt Disney World Resort.

Tensions between the U.S. and Canada escalated after former U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to enact 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau encouraged citizens to “Choose Canada” and keep their money in the country rather than spending it at U.S. vacation destinations like Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

Even more Canadian Disney Parks fans canceled their Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort vacations after Trudeau was caught on a hot mic suggesting that Trump’s annexation threats were very “real.”

One outraged Canadian spoke out about their decision to cancel a long-planned Disney trip:

“Not a chance in hell we are going to go now. We were planning a Halloween trip but going to stay in Canada. We usually go once every year, but since Trump’s dragging of our country—sorry, not sorry. Maybe we will save for Japan next year.”

  1. It’s quite amusing how your trying your hardest to tie two disconnected things together. They’ve been working on the Canada pavilion for at least one year already. WHO WOULD BLAME CANADIANS FOR CANCELING THEIR TRIPS? TRUSK HAS PRACTICALLY DECLARED WAR ON OUR LOVELY NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH!

    1. This article is a joke trying to connect the repairs going on in Epcot with Canada to Trump’s policy. The reality is that the Canadian dollar exchange rate is way down in value ($1.00 Canadian =$1.50 US) as compared the US dollar. Why people are opposed to reciprocal tariffs is beyond me. For years we have been paying at least $.25 per dollar on tariffs to Canada for their imports while Canada pays nothing. People like Cheryl C above in her comment calling fair trade as “declaring war” on our neighbors; give me a break. Canadians don’t know how to drive so I am more than happy to not see them clogging up the roads.

      1. Oh please! I realize you think you have vast trade agreement knowledge. But let’s not turn this into a political mud slinging event.
And yes, Trump decided to put tarrifss on Canadian goods so Canada put reciprocal tarrifs in

      2. Your exchange rate is backwards. It’s $1.00 CND= $0.65 US so it costs Canada more to buy USA goods.

  2. Well at least Canadians know how to be neighbours!!! We don’t look down on Americans when they come to our country , we actually invite with open arms You are a much bigger country with many more people but that’s never taken into consideration when they talk about who pays what !!! Who stood beside you in all the wars , even though they weren’t ours So before people going mouthing off about Canadians Americans shouldnt throw stones in glass houses !! Canadian strong !!
