Spring break is fast approaching, and with it comes an influx of massive crowds descending upon Walt Disney World Resort. As the parks prepare for one of the busiest stretches of the year, Disney is making a significant operational shift that could impact how guests plan their visit.
According to The Florida Review, the peak spring break period runs from March 1 through March 23, and Orlando remains one of the most sought-after travel destinations for vacationers during this time. With demand at an all-time high, Disney is implementing its usual surge pricing strategy for Lightning Lane access, signaling an expected surge in park attendance.
However, the biggest change this season isn’t just the cost of skipping the line—it’s the removal of Disney World’s last remaining virtual queues. Guests visiting Magic Kingdom’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will no longer be able to secure a spot in line via the virtual queue system.
Instead, Disney has opted for traditional standby lines for both attractions. While this removes the pressure of waking up before 7 a.m. to secure a virtual queue spot, it does raise questions about how wait times will be affected. On its first day without a virtual queue, Cosmic Rewind’s wait time skyrocketed to 170 minutes, reinforcing its status as one of the resort’s most in-demand rides. Meanwhile, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure saw fluctuations, peaking early before experiencing a drop-off—likely due to its status as a water ride, which can be influenced by weather conditions and guest preferences.
In an effort to streamline guest flow at EPCOT, Disney has introduced a new system that allows visitors without early entry privileges to wait near Spaceship Earth before the park officially opens. This move comes just in time for EPCOT’s annual International Flower & Garden Festival, which kicks off on March 5, bringing with it exclusive food, merchandise, and seasonal experiences.
As Cosmic Rewind continues to draw massive crowds with its signature reverse launch and fan-favorite soundtrack, it’s expected to remain one of the most in-demand attractions throughout the spring break season. Those hoping to experience it without enduring marathon wait times will likely need to strategize, whether by rope-dropping the ride or taking advantage of early entry perks—if eligible.
