Disneyland Shuts Out Thousands of Annual Passholders, Gives Final Notice
For thousands of Disneyland Resort Magic Key Pass holders, the highly anticipated 70th-anniversary celebration is already shaping up to be a disappointment. Disneyland Park reservations for May 16, 2025—the day the festivities officially begin—are completely sold out, leaving Pass holders unable to enter.
A Milestone Celebration Begins Without Magic Key Pass Holders
Disneyland Resort’s 70th-anniversary festivities have been a long time coming. Although the park officially turns 70 on July 17, 2025, the Southern California Disney park previously announced that the party would start two months early, kicking off with exclusive entertainment offerings, special merchandise, and decorations throughout the resort.
During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disneyland Resort unveiled its official anniversary logo, teased new and returning entertainment, and showcased brand-new costumes for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. The event also hinted at the return of the Wondrous Journeys fireworks show and special anniversary decorations adorning Sleeping Beauty Castle.
But for Magic Key Pass holders, the news isn’t all magical.
No Reservations, No Entry
Magic Key Pass holders who didn’t secure a Disneyland Park reservation for May 16 will be shut out of opening-day festivities.
According to the Disneyland Resort app and website, Magic Key reservations are completely booked for the park’s kickoff celebration, with availability only remaining at Disney California Adventure Park. Standard date-based theme park tickets, however, are still available, meaning that non-Pass holders still have a chance to attend.
More Disneyland Anniversary Surprises to Come
While May 16 marks the start of Disneyland Resort’s anniversary celebration, the biggest moments are reserved for the park’s actual birthday on July 17. That day, Disneyland Park will debut a brand-new verse in “it’s a small world” to honor the legendary Sherman brothers, who composed the attraction’s world-famous theme song.
Also, Disneyland Park’s Main Street Opera House will debut an all-new production, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” temporarily replacing Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. This show will showcase never-before-seen memorabilia from Walt Disney Imagineering and the Walt Disney Archives alongside the first-ever Walt Disney animatronic.
