Things You’ll Love About Cosmic Ray’s Starlight CafĂ© At Walt Disney World

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is a counter service restaurant located in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. The eatery is extremely popular, so you might want to eat at off hours if possible. Cosmic Ray’s holds a special place in my heart, it’s the first Walt Disney World restaurant that my family and I ever dined in. Here are a few of the many things that you’ll love about Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe.

7) Additional Seating

The building that Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is in is rather large. After you order, you’ll see the often packed main dining room. If you can grab a table in there, take it, but if you can’t, keep looking. There is additional seating. Look to the sides of the counter where you picked up your food. These seats will still fill up on crowded days, but there’s more of a chance that you’ll find something. On days that aren’t as busy, the side seating areas are quieter than the main dining room.

6) Tables With a View

If the weather is nice, you might want instead to look for seats outside. There are several outdoor tables that have a great view of Cinderella Castle. The tables outdoors are also good for people watching. After dark the outdoor table views are beautiful.

5) Kosher Meals

Kosher dining isn’t difficult at Walt Disney World if you make table service reservations and let them know ahead of time. If you want counter service meals, there is one kosher option in each of the four theme parks. At the Magic Kingdom, kosher meals are served at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. You might want to call 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) 24 hours in advance, just to be on the safe side. Other special diets can be accommodated as well.

4) Mobile Ordering

If you do find yourself wanting to dine at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe on a crowded day, or if you’re short on time, all is not lost. Just use mobile ordering! You’ll need the My Disney Experience App. You can look at the menu and then place your order wherever you are, and then let them know when you’re ready for them to prepare it for you. Mobile Ordering may not help you to find a table in the main dining room, but it is a convenient way to fit your meal into your schedule.

3) Burgers and More

The menu at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe may not be fancy, but that can be a good thing. You’ll find American favorites such as burgers, chicken, and barbecue sandwiches. There will always be at least one vegetarian option as well. Depending on what you order the sides could include fries, mashed potatoes, or green beans. The portions are large, you will not leave hungry.

2) Live Performers?

One of the most fun things about Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is the music of Sonny Eclipse (more on him in a moment). What is not commonly known is that during special events there is sometimes live entertainment as well. The stage where Sonny performs can be lifted by hydraulics and hidden from guests. The extra space can then be used for live performers or to make more room for a dance party. When he’s needed, Sonny will then be lowered back down into his normal space like nothing ever happened.

1) Sonny Eclipse

The main attraction at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is a lounge singer named Sonny Eclipse. He’s from Yew Nork City on the planet Zork. His show lasts 27 minutes, and features songs such as Bright Little Star, Gravity Blues, and Planetary Boogie. Sonny throws in plenty of bad jokes along the way. He is accompanied by three backup singers who go by the name Space Angels. If you don’t notice them on your next visit don’t worry about your vision, they’re invisible.

About PaulaK

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
