8 Things to Know About the NBA Experience at Disney Springs

Credit: Disney

The NBA Experience opened in August of 2019. It’s located at Disney Springs, in the space that used to be occupied by DisneyQuest. It is not the same building, the old one was demolished. The NBA Experience is a great place to spend some time if you’re taking a break from the theme parks. If there’s rain in the forecast or you want a few hours out of the Florida heat, consider the NBA Experience. Here are eight things that you will want to know ahead of time.

8) All for One Price

There are 13 different activities at the NBA Experience. The good news is that you will only pay one price per person to be able to do them all! It is also not a one-and-done deal. If there is a station that you like more than the others, you can do it over and over again. You can spend your time how you want to, all for one reasonable price.

7) NBA Store

Fans of the NBA and the WNBA will want to spend some time in the NBA Store. There is plenty of specialty gear featuring your favorite team, some of which has a Disney spin. Even though the NBA Store is attached to the NBA Experience, you can enter it from the outside. No ticket is needed to shop there.

6) You Don’t Need to Be a Basketball Fan

One common argument for not visiting the NBA Experience is that someone does not like professional basketball. While a love for the game might seem like a prerequisite, it really isn’t. The activities found inside are not hard to understand, and they are fun! Grab your family or a group of friends, and just enjoy yourselves. You can have a fantastic day, even if you don’t know how many points a three-point shot is worth. If you’re an uber-fan, you will enjoy it that much more.

5) Skills Are Not Necessarily Needed

Another argument for not stopping by the NBA Experience is that someone is terrible at basketball. Skills are not required to take part in any of the challenges. A lot of the games can be changed or adjusted, so they will match your current skill set. The skill level can also increase if you want something more challenging. Whether you have never picked up a basketball before or you attended college on a scholarship, you will find activities that will match your level.

4) Real Time Information

While much of the NBA Experience allows you to play various games, you can also keep up with what is going on in the pros. Real time information is available during the NBA and WNBA seasons, so you can learn the latest stats. You will be able to feel as if you are stepping into an NBA locker room, where you will find a treasure chest of information. You can also travel back in time and learn about games and tournaments from the past. If you’re a stats person, you might never want to leave.

3) There’s No Place to Eat

At DisneyQuest, there was a small counter service restaurant. There is no place to eat inside the NBA Experience. You don’t have to go far to enjoy a delicious, sports-themed meal, though. Right outside of the entrance you’ll find City Works Eatery & Pour House. You can dine on burgers, tacos, pasta, and more. There are over 90 beers on tap to wash it all down. You don’t even have to worry about missing a game, since City Works is filled with giant state-of-the-art high definition televisions. Once you’ve finished your meal, you can be back at the NBA Experience in less than a minute. You can then try anything that you might have missed, or hit all of your favorites for a second time.

2) Picture Opportunities

Pictures are an important part of any Walt Disney World vacation, and that includes at the NBA Experience. You can show your reward for all your hard work in the various games by getting pictures with the NBA MVP Trophy. Next, show that you’re a team player by posing with the NBA Championship Trophy. You’ll have a chance to be drafted, and then you’ll have a picture that celebrates your new team. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will be there (sort of), ready to cheer you on. There are also other unique pictures that you’ll want to take, such as showing your height next to a player’s height, or putting your hand in a player’s handprint. The pictures that you end up with from the NBA Experience could be some of your favorites from your Walt Disney World vacation.

1) Fun for All Ages

One of the best things about the NBA Experience is that it is fun for all ages. There is something for everyone! It is great for families, because all of the kids will be able to be involved. It is also the perfect outing for a competitive (or not-so-competitive) group of friends. Grandparents can take part with their grandchildren, and honeymooners can let each other win. Don’t think that you’re too old for basketball, or that the kids are too young. Get your game face on, and consider visiting the NBA Experience on your Walt Disney World vacation. You won’t regret it.

About PaulaK

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
