Young Man Leaves SeaWorld Roller Coaster Battered and Bruised
This summer, a ride on one of SeaWorld Orlando’s newest attractions ended in a painful surprise for one young man. What was supposed to be a thrilling experience on Pipeline: The Surf Coaster quickly turned into an unexpected and bizarre encounter that left him bruised — and an animal dead.
Pipeline: The Surf Coaster debuted at SeaWorld Orlando in 2023, marketed as the “first-of-its-kind surf coaster” for its unique standing position and 60 mph launch. Riders stand upright on adjustable platforms that mimic the sensation of surfing as the train twists and turns along the track. The roller coaster has quickly become a favorite among thrill-seekers.

Last month, Instagram user Kelly Angelo (@mrskellyangelo) shared that her son’s very first ride on Pipeline was interrupted when a duck flew into him during the launch. The bird struck his side, leaving visible marks that later became bruises.
First time riding we rode Pipeline at @seaworldorlando and a duck flew into my son. My son was bruised and very proud of his first duck or duck season…… #seaworldorlando #seaworld #pipeline #rollercoaster #orlando #duckseason #launch
According to Angelo, the duck then collided with her daughter, who was seated behind her son, before falling onto the coaster’s floor and eventually into the pond below. Sadly, the bird did not survive the impact. When asked online if the duck had died, the guest replied, “Unfortunately yes. It hit my son in the side and then my daughter behind him and landed on the floor of the coaster. When we turned it fell off.”

Fortunately, both siblings appear to have avoided serious injury, with only bruising reported. SeaWorld Orlando has not released any public comment on the incident, and Pipeline: The Surf Coaster remains in operation.
