Wheels Fall off Roller Coaster, Kids Sent Plummeting Backwards Down Track
A recent viral video shows at least nine children on a roller coaster being sent plummeting backwards down the track following a freak mechanical accident. The video, which has sparked discussions about safety at traveling amusement parks, shows the kids riding a small dragon-themed coaster when the wheels fell off.
Last week, TikTok user @fallenarrows shared a shocking video from what appears to be a local carnival or fair. The footage shows a small dragon roller coaster in operation when suddenly, the wheels detached, causing the coaster to make a loud creaking sound before plummeting backwards on the track.
The TikTok post quickly garnered over 1.2 million views and 77,000 likes, with viewers expressing concern over the safety of such rides. In the video, a spectator can be heard asking, “You ain’t gonna f**king stop it?”
In the aftermath of the incident, many viewers took to social media to express their dismay over the incident, with many citing it as a reason to question the safety standards of traveling theme park equipment often found at carnivals, fairs, and circuses.
“My dad was a roller coaster inspector and always said don’t trust anything that can be built or taken down in a day,” @abbyzepp commented on TikTok.
“Honestly after working as a mechanic I can’t ever enjoy carnival rides again,” said @sloppytoppy024. “Just notice how poorly most of it is maintained lol. Oof that’s a rough weld, or oh that bearing is about to go.”
“And this is why I dont trust these type of rides. Put up and taken down back up…no thanks,” @kellyschneider35 agreed.
While many social media users expressed concerns, others defended the traveling amusement industry.
“I used to be a carnie on the kiddy rides and our boss went around every night to check the rides,” @canddg84 wrote. “Our job in the morning was to check over everything and if we found a coin there was something not correct, if you didn’t find a coin and you went to do your test run and you find out the key was gone you missed an issue (could range from R clips, bolts to seat belts etc). You had to fix the issue, return the coin and have the owner come check the ride, prior to 2 hours before open time. Sadly not all run this way.”
