We Are Shocked at This New Magic Kingdom Waffle Change One Year After Iconic Item Retired

While the future of Frontierland begins to take shape and Liberty Square’s Hall of Presidents remains on pause, a classic Disney snack has quietly made its grand return—sending fans back to Sleepy Hollow Refreshments with smiles (and appetites) in tow.

Tucked beside the Haunted Mansion and offering one of the best views of Cinderella Castle, Sleepy Hollow has become a must-stop for guests craving something sweet or savory. Over the past year, this spot has undergone a number of menu changes—but none have stirred quite as much excitement as this.

As of June 11, 2025, both the Fresh Fruit and Chocolate-Hazelnut Waffle Sandwich and the Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich are officially back in their circular waffles; Mickey-shaped waffles had replaced the circular waffle for much of the last year. The change was confirmed in a report by Kenny the Pirate, seemingly responding to guest feedback.

Fans will remember that the original Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich—a golden waffle topped with chocolate-hazelnut spread, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas—had become something of a cult favorite. Its removal last year left many guests disappointed. A Mickey waffle with berries was introduced in its place, with bananas only available by ordering a different menu item.

A few months later, Disney added another new version to the lineup: a Mickey waffle with chocolate-hazelnut spread, bananas, berries, and whipped cream. While closer in spirit to the original, the smaller size and different texture meant it never quite replaced the classic. But now, the circular version that fans remember has made its return—restoring a sense of nostalgia and comfort to the Sleepy Hollow menu.

This move is just one of many ways Disney continues to evolve in response to what guests love most. Sleepy Hollow remains a favorite for parkgoers, offering other fan-favorites like funnel cakes, hand-dipped corn dogs, and even seasonal surprises like last year’s Princess Tiana souvenir sipper, which tied into the highly anticipated opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

That upcoming attraction is part of the much larger transformation unfolding across Frontierland and Liberty Square. Revealed during D23 Expo 2024, this project includes a brand-new land called Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the world of Cars. To make space for the new addition, Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and the Liberty Belle Riverboat will retire on July 7, 2025.

Reactions to this change have been passionate, with many long-time guests sharing memories of these classic attractions. In response, Disney has promised that the American frontier spirit will remain strong in the park, using an immersive design concept known as “Parkitecture” to connect past and present.

Meanwhile, over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, another exciting project is on the way: the resort’s first suspended roller coaster, set within a brand-new Monsters, Inc. land. And after years of anticipation, Disney Villains will finally claim their own corner of Magic Kingdom, introducing new thrills and experiences for fans of Disney’s darker icons.

While the park moves forward with bold ideas and imaginative lands, the return of something as simple—and delicious—as a circular waffle sandwich serves as a warm reminder that Disney magic lives in both the epic and the everyday.

At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible.
