Walt Disney World Plans Turnstiles for ESPN Wide World of Sports

We have learned that there are new construction plans for the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  The new construction will include turnstile areas, which are planned for two phases of work.  The first phase of the project is expected to be completed around July 7th.  This phase will add new concrete sidewalks, as well as permanent fencing toward the front near the box offices.

Once this is complete, the second phase will be begin around July 17th after AAU Track and Field is held at the facilities there.  There will be a temporary sidewalk to navigate to a different entrance during this time as the main entrance will be under construction in order to install the new turnstiles.  There will be signs in place to help guests know where to go during the different phases of construction in order to alleviate confusion.

Once the construction is completed, it is expected that all guests will have to enter the park using turnstiles.  We don’t know if this is to prep for other changes possibly coming to ESPN Wide World of Sports.  The center is used for a lot of different sporting events, expos and events, so Disney could be making plans to add additional entertainment to the facility.

How many of you have visited ESPN Wide World of Sports?  What do you think this means for the future of the complex?

Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips… More »
