Walt Disney World is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. To add to the celebration, Disney has officially opened the new multi-purpose arena that was built at the sports complex. This is a major expansion that will bring even more great sports, activities and events to ESPN Wide World of Sports. The special opening of the new complex was complete with a dedication ceremony with some of the key stakeholders. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a cheerleading routine that featured Minnie Mouse in her brand new cheerleader uniform.
The new complex totals around 300,000 square feet and will seat around 8,000 guests. It has been named The Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The venue will host sports and events including basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, cheerleading, dance and more. The UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship will be hosted there through the weekend as the first major event to be held at The Arena. The event is expected to have around 5,000 athletes in attendance.
ESPN Wide World of Sports spans over 220-acres and has been regarded as one of the leading facilities in America for youth sports and events. There are sure to be more exciting things coming to the new arena as well as to ESPN Wide World of Sports in general.
