Walt Disney World Changing Security Check Points for Magic Kingdom

We have heard various rumors that the handling for the security for Magic Kingdom, but now Disney has made these changes official.  We have confirmed that guests who take buses and boats to Magic Kingdom will have new security screening checkpoints that they will go through at the front of the park.  Guests who go to the Ticket & Transportation Center first will go through security screening directly at the Ticket & Transportation Center before they board the monorail or ferry to head to Magic Kingdom.  There will also be security screening added at resorts on the monorail track so that they are screened before they board the monorail to head to the park.  Once the monorail or ferry arrives at the park guests won’t have to go through security again and will be able to go straight through the ticketing lines to enter.

All of these changes are reported to be in effect starting April 3rd, 2017.  This should definitely alleviate the backlog of guests going through security all at once at Magic Kingdom by spreading it out.  This will mean a longer wait to catch the monorail or ferry, but a smoother experience once arriving at Magic Kingdom.  We haven’t heard of any security changes or impacts at the other parks, including if guests boarding the Epcot monorail will be screened first and avoid Epcot screening lines, or if the process will continue as usual. As always, we will keep you posted as we learn more about these new changes.

Check out our article below 6 Secrets Most People Don’t Know About Free Dining at Walt Disney World by Brandon

By Brandon B

Most people wouldn’t seem to think you can use FREE and Disney World in the same sentence.  You absolutely can when you are talking about FREE dining!  Most Disney World enthusiasts love this promotion.  If you can time your vacation around this special discount you can save a great deal of money and try some great new things.  In this article I will share some additional secrets that will help you make the most out of this already amazing deal!

6. Most Items Are Shareable

A great way to make your meals and snacks stretch is to pick items that you can share. I never utilize a snack credit for a bottle of water (you can get a free cup of water at any quick service restaurant in Disney World).  Instead pick items like funnel cakes, popcorn, or cinnamon rolls that you can easily share with at least one other person!  There are also several meals that you could easily share is you are not super hungry.  One example would be at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. With one meal credit you can get a half rotisserie chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes, a dessert, and a drink!  Ask for an extra plate and cup and you will be good to go!

5. Rapid Refill Mugs can be filled at ANY resort

With your FREE dining promotion you will also receive a free Rapid Fill Mug! You will most frequently utilize these mugs at the resort you are staying at, but you can refill them at any resort.  If you have a reservation at a restaurant at another resort don’t forget to throw your mug in your backpack and take it with you.  When you get to the resort to eat, stop by their quick service restaurant and fill up your mug and have a beverage while you wait on your table!  You can also fill it up when you are done eating and have a beverage for the park you are heading to.

4. Upgrade Your Resort

The level of FREE dining you are given will depend on the resort level you are staying at. If you are staying at a Value Resort you will receive the Quick Service Dining Plan, Moderate Resort guests will get Regular Dining, and Deluxe Resort guests will get…you guessed it, Deluxe Dining.  With the money you are saving in food it is worth the splurge to upgrade your resort and in turn you will upgrade your dining package!

Bonus Tip- Plan your dining reservations 180 days before the first day of your trip!

3. Room Service

Just because you have FREE dining doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice a night of relaxation. You can utilize two of your credits to get a pizza, breadsticks, and a 2 liter soft drink delivered to your room!  This is great for a rainy night or a night that the family is just plain exhausted from a full day at the parks!  If you have a family of 4 or so, this would also qualify as a shareable meal as mentioned above!

2. Convert extra meals into snacks

If you have been super busy during your trip or have shared several meals then this is the secret for you! Every meal on your plan can be converted into three snack credits.  On the last day of your trip visit Goofy’s Candy Store at Disney Springs and utilize your snack credits for some awesome souvenir candy to take home!  This is a great way to remember your magical vacation.

1. Get a drink to take to the park

When you utilize a credit for a quick service meal you will get the meal, a side or dessert, and a drink! Grab a quick service breakfast and use your Rapid Fill Mug for your drink.  You can still grab a bottled drink of your choice as part of your meal.  Throw that drink in your backpack for later.  Check out all of your options as you can get juice, soda, and even energy drinks!  This will save you at least $3 per person in your party.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
