How to Make The Most of Frozen Summer Fun

By Cassie

I know there are many Frozen fans out there so I want to start with the newest opportunities for you to see the characters, which takes place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When you enter the park a Cast Member will be handing out the “Take Along Olaf” that are sometimes on a stick, sometimes not. The Olaf also serves as an autograph card as it has autographs printed on the back. You are to take Olaf with you and take selfies or photos of your group with the Olaf showing in the shot then post them on social media using “#OlafSummerVacation”.

Some of these photos will be selected to be shown on the big screen in a firework pre-show at the main stage. There is a Premium Frozen Summer package that I will tell you about later, but for now let’s focus on access to the Frozen Summer Fun available with regular park admission. The Frozen fun starts mid-morning along Hollywood Boulevard with the Royal Welcome as Queen Elsa and Princess Anna arrive on a horse-drawn sleigh. They are here as part of their goodwill tour visiting neighboring kingdoms. You will want to stake out a spot to watch the parade at least an hour ahead of time. Hollywood Boulevard is not as easy to stake out a spot as Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom- due to it feeling very congested once people start lining up. The parade goes down the street and ends at the main stage area. Some great viewing is available nearer the stage. There are skaters, ice-breakers, skiers, and Kristoff joining in the parade. At the conclusion of the parade a stage show begins immediately on the main stage. Anna and Elsa are brought on stage and Olaf appears via the screen. They lead everyone in a big sing-along of “Let it Go”.

After the parade I would encourage you to move to the back of the park to pick-up a ticket to the “For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” show in the Premier Theater for the time that would fit in your schedule the best. The show is 20-minutes long and is currently showing at 12:30PM, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, and 5, 6, and 7PM. The ticket you get will help you get into the Theater easier at your show time, rather than waiting in a long line. Disney has placed umbrellas along the queue, but it is still very sunny in this area. You will be entering the theater in the entrance to the left, as you face it. The Premium package guests will enter on the right side, as you face the theater. The show has been very well received and everyone seems to enjoy it. Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff are in the show along with some Arendelle citizens that help to retell the story from the film. They have a sing along that includes most of the songs from the film. The earlier you arrive at the theater, the better your seats will be.

More Frozen Summer Fun is available for you at Soundstage 1(where Darth’s Mall was for Star Wars Weekends, just past Toy Story Midway Mania). One entrance here is for “Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post” and the entrance to the left of it will take you to “Wandering Oaken’s Frozen Funland”. These are open from park opening until PM. The Trading Post has all the Frozen merchandise you are looking for. Apparel, costumes, jewelry, collector pins, snacks, smartphone cases, pens, plush, dolls, desserts, a new Olaf Tea Set, and books of your favorite Frozen characters are inside. The Frozen Funland has been built by Oaken and his cousins for your entertainment. This truly is an exceptional play area for summer in central Florida! You can participate in snowman building, take some photos with winter backdrops, or perhaps you would like to strap on some skates and do some ice-skating? You can rent the skates, socks, and a helmet for $10.00 for 30 minutes of skate time. While you are surrounded by all this snow and ice you may want to try the Marshmallow flavored Hot Cocoa, or another hot or Frozen beverage. You can also enjoy an Anna or Elsa cupcake and an Olaf cupcake or Cake pops. The Olaf cupcake is exceptional! It is a carrot cake with vanilla buttercream, marshmallow, and a white chocolate Olaf on top. This Frozen Funland is a great place for your family to enjoy some winter activities inside when outside it is in the mid-90’s and very humid! Disney has done a really good job with this.

Want to join in the “Coolest Ever Summer Dance Party? Stop by the main stage area from 5:30-9:30 where some new pop versions of some favorite Frozen songs will be spinning.

At the end of the evening will be a special pre-show ahead of the Frozen Fireworks show. The pre-show will include some photos that have been posted during the day on social media with the #OlafSummerVacation header, displayed on the screen at the main stage. The “Frozen Fireworks Spectacular” takes place at 9:45PM. Bring your Glow with the Show ears to this one! Join Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf in this grand finale. The Spectacular is accompanied by the great music from Frozen. The show is spectacular, as is its name. Really, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has produced some awesome Fireworks shows and this is one of them. Nearby you will see a tent selling special alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Adult drinks include a Summer Berry Margarita. Let it Glow and Arendelle Punch (non-alcoholic) are also available.

The Frozen Summer Fun Premium Package may be appealing to you if you plan on doing all of the Frozen activities. The cost of the package is $59.00 for adults, $34.00 for children, tax and gratuities included. Keeping in mind that you don’t have to purchase the package to see the parade, show, and Fireworks show, anyone with park admission can do the same. The advantages of this package are pretty appealing though. The package includes a separate reserved viewing area for the Royal Welcome parade, reserved seating at one viewing time of “For the First Time in Forever: Frozen Sing-Along” show, and reserved viewing area for the Frozen Fireworks Spectacular. You get refreshments in the morning, as you watch the parade, which is your choice of Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream bar, some frozen lemonades, bottled soda or water. You are guest at a special Dessert Party just for Premium Package guests during the Fireworks show that includes the special Anna, Elsa, and Olaf cupcakes, more of the frozen desserts commonly found in the parks, snacks, and frozen beverages, two alcoholic selections for adults and frozen specialty drinks for kids too. The price can be argued that it doesn’t give you anything that different from regular park guests, but if you count your time saved not having to stand in the sun to get a parade viewing spot, getting the best seats at the show, having space saved for you to view the stage and fireworks show, then add up all the snacks, desserts, and drinks you consume, it is not a bad Disney ticket to have.

These are all great options for those who loved the movie Frozen and can’t get enough of the characters. If you just want everyone to “Let it go” literally with all the Frozen stuff and you hope to ride several attractions during this Frozen fest going on for everyone else, you need to listen up. A large part of the park will be closed around 8:30PM and remain closed during the Fireworks Spectacular. Animation Courtyard, Art of Animation, Streets of America, and Pixar Place are all blocked off. Those guests who had FP+ times for Toy Story Midway Mania during that time period were sent emails telling them their FP+’s will be available when the ride reopens after the fireworks. You will still be able to ride: Star Tours, Tower of Terror, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The Fantasmic show is on twice at 9PM and 10:30PM. There are still good options for you if you want to pass on the Frozen activities. You can also take in a sneak preview of “Guardians of the Galaxy” at the ABC Sound Studio.

If you want to find all things Frozen on this trip to Walt Disney World, don’t miss the meet and greet with Anna and Elsa, only at Princess Fairy Tale Hall in Fantasyland, Magic Kingdom. The sisters are also part of the Festival of Fantasy Parade at 3PM in the Magic Kingdom daily. You can find Frozen merchandise in many locations throughout Hollywood Studios, in the Emporium in Magic Kingdom, World of Disney at Downtown Disney Marketplace, Puffin’s Roost in Norway in Epcot, and Mouse Gear at Epcot. You can find Frozen-inspired desserts and beverages at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and some unique offerings in Norway. You can enjoy a display about Norway that inspired the Frozen movie inside the Stave Church in Norway. This ends the Frozen wrap-up for this week.

What else is everyone talking about while at Walt Disney World? The World Cup is very popular here right now. There are many tour groups here from other countries, many of whom have teams playing in the World Cup and they are very interested in the games. Disney has provided two large locations in Epcot, the Odyssey building and the building that has served as the Festival Center most recently have both been opened to watch the games live. Restaurantosaurus in Animal Kingdom has been equipped with four large screens all tuned to the games. Interest is very high. You only needed to be in the queue at Big Thunder Mountain this afternoon to hear one of the tour groups from Brazil stomping and chanting to witness how passionately they hold their soccer team. The spaces opened for the games are packed out. Young children talk about their own soccer games, and recall a play in the World Cup that that they want to try and playout in their own games. Parents are making their predictions on who is going to win. Yes, there is a lot of excitement here around the FIFA World Cup!

About Cassie

Cassie L. I am a lifelong Disney fan. I attended Walt Disney World in 1971, and was there during the opening week of EPCOT, and have visited the Disney Parks for than 30 times. I have had the privilege of visiting Disneyland as a child, and then again with my children. My family recently moved from the northeastern United States to the Walt Disney World area. I now have cast members in my family and enjoy hearing the magical stories at the end of a shift. I love visiting all of the parks and getting to try more Disney food and being able to share it with you to help you plan your own magical day at Disney.
