A newly released state report has brought renewed attention to a tragic incident that occurred at Universal Orlando Resort toward the end of last year.

Documents filed by the state reveal that a 70-year-old guest passed away after riding Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida. The incident appeared in a Florida theme park injury report and included the entry, “Revenge of the Mummy, 70 yof, unresponsive, later passed away at the hospital.”
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services later identified the guest as Ma de La Luz Mejia Rosas. According to the quarterly report, she became unresponsive while on the indoor roller coaster on November 25, 2025. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The disclosure has once again brought ride safety and medical warnings into the spotlight, especially when it comes to high-thrill attractions at major theme parks. Revenge of the Mummy first opened in 2004 and has remained a staple at Universal Studios Florida for more than two decades. The attraction blends dark ride storytelling with high-speed launches, abrupt turns, and short drops. Posted warnings caution guests with certain health conditions to refrain from riding.
Although the coaster has operated for years and is widely regarded as a fan favorite, the death has renewed public scrutiny over how health risks are communicated and managed on intense attractions.

This tragedy follows closely behind another fatal incident at Universal Orlando Resort involving the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal Epic Universe. That case, which involved the death of Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, quickly escalated into legal action and sparked widespread discussion around operational oversight, guest communication, and accountability.
The Stardust Racers lawsuit was resolved just weeks ago. Ben Crump Law confirmed the matter was settled privately. Attorney Ben Crump, who also represented the family of Tyre Sampson following his death at ICON Park in 2022, is now representing the family connected to the Revenge of the Mummy case.

“Attorney Ben Crump will represent the family of a 70-year-old woman who died after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Orlando Resort in November,” Click Orlando confirmed this week.
“According to a news release from Crump’s office, the family is ‘seeking answers and full transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, including information related to the ride’s operations, safety protocols, maintenance history, and any available incident data,'” the report added.

As word of the incident spread, online communities lit up with debate over where responsibility lies when medical emergencies occur on thrill rides. Some guests point to posted warnings and personal accountability, while others argue for stronger safeguards and clearer communication.
As Universal continues to develop larger and more technologically advanced attractions, incidents like this highlight the delicate balance between innovation, guest awareness, and the necessity of rigorous safety standards across the industry.
