Universal Studios Hollywood Unleashes a Dino-Sized Summer Surprise – But That’s Just the Beginning
Here’s What Else Is Coming to the Theme Park
Screams of excitement echo through the mist as a colossal shadow looms ahead. Suddenly, a massive splash erupts, soaking riders as the infamous Mosasaurus crashes through the water. It’s not a scene from the big screen—it’s happening this summer at Universal Studios Hollywood. But why is this aquatic predator making waves now?
This jaw-dropping moment is just one highlight of Universal Mega Movie Summer, a brand-new seasonal event kicking off June 13 and running daily through August 10. But before we dive into the films, the food, and the full experience, let’s talk about what’s making Jurassic World—The Ride more monstrous than ever before.
Jurassic World Gets a Monstrous Makeover at Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal Studios Hollywood is breathing new (prehistoric) life into its fan-favorite attraction, Jurassic World—The Ride, with all-new enhancements inspired by the upcoming film Jurassic World Rebirth, set to hit theaters July 2. The revamped ride now features an epic Mosasaurus Splash finale, immersing guests in an intense aquatic encounter unlike anything the ride has offered before. Additional dinosaur effects have been added, bringing even more thrills to this already iconic flume experience.
But that’s not all. Parkgoers will meet a brand-new dinosaur character alongside Blue the Velociraptor and Baby Tango. And for those who love a good challenge, a Jurassic-themed scavenger hunt will have visitors racing across Isla Nublar.
To keep your energy up, Jurassic Café and Isla Nubar will roll out exclusive summer menu items, giving guests new ways to taste the adventure.
Universal Mega Movie Summer: A Tribute to Blockbusters
More than just a dino upgrade, Universal Mega Movie Summer pays homage to some of the studio’s most beloved films—and gives fans a chance to live them.
The great white terror is back. For its 50th anniversary, Jaws is getting a summer-long celebration. From the return of the iconic hanging shark photo op to themed characters like Captain Quint and Chief Brody, Universal is making a splash with nostalgia. The Studio Tour will spotlight Jaws with special nods at both Jaws Lake and the replica Hollywood Sign.
Foodies will want to head to the re-themed Amity Island Café (formerly Hollywood & Dine), where new menu items include:
-
Lobster Roll
-
Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich
-
Fish and Chips
-
Shark Bait Burger
-
Shark Fin Funnel
It’s been four decades since Marty McFly and Doc Brown raced through time, and Universal is honoring their journey with character appearances, themed merch, and fun eats like the Flux Capacitor Patty Melt and Outatime Cookie at Mel’s Diner. Fans can also catch a special screening of Back to the Future at Universal Cinema on July 3.
A “Wicked” Encounter
With anticipation building for the Wicked film adaptation, Universal is giving guests a chance to meet Elphaba and Glinda in a vibrant photo op near the park entrance. It’s a magical moment not to be missed.
Fans of How to Train Your Dragon will come face-to-snout with a towering, lifelike sculpture of Toothless, standing 6 feet tall and stretching 24 feet long. The massive dragon will reside in Universal Plaza, where themed treats like Toothless and Light Fury cookies and a Toothless popcorn bucket will also be available.
The action doesn’t stop there. Guests will get an early glimpse at the highly anticipated Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster, set to open in 2026. A replica ride vehicle modeled after Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger will be on display for photo ops and fan hype.
Don’t skip CityWalk on your way out. The celebration extends outside the gates with live DJ performances, movie merchandise, and even more themed treats. Inside Universal Cinema, original costumes from How to Train Your Dragon and Jurassic World Rebirth will be on display for film buffs to admire.
Why This Universal Studios Hollywood Event Matters
Universal Mega Movie Summer isn’t just another seasonal overlay—it’s a strategic move by Universal Studios Hollywood to solidify its identity as more than just a theme park. By weaving together immersive experiences based on blockbuster IPs and cinematic anniversaries, Universal is blurring the line between the silver screen and real life.
As Disney continues to dominate the family entertainment space, this event signals that Universal is ready to bite back—hard. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, this summer promises the ultimate blockbuster escape.
The question is: which world will you step into first?
