New Location Offers New Experiences

As crowds flood into Universal Orlando Resort to witness the opening of Epic Universe, something unexpected—and much sweeter—has quietly launched across the lagoon.

One brings a vibrant candy-coated experience, while the other revives retro flair with a nostalgic twist. What exactly opened, and why should theme park fans care?

Universal: A Quiet Transformation Bursts Into Color

The “On Location” gift shop, once tucked behind construction walls since its January closure, has officially been reborn as Universal Sweets. The new storefront boasts a fresh color scheme of pale gray and cool blue, with a cheerful, multi-colored “Sweets” sign above the door. Each letter pops with its own bold hue, while the word “Universal” stands bright in white across a vivid blue backdrop.

From the outside, it’s a playful invitation to step inside—and as of today, guests can finally do just that. Universal Sweets is now officially open to all park visitors.

Inside, the shop is packed with vibrant displays of packaged candy, colorful theming, and a family-friendly atmosphere. While this isn’t a snack location with fresh treats or baked goods (yet), it’s clearly positioned as a fun, photo-friendly destination where kids (and kids-at-heart) can indulge.

But that’s not all. Directly across the street, another fan-favorite has also undergone a transformation.

Studio Sweets Is Gone—Here’s What Replaced It

Just a few steps away, the former Studio Sweets location—once home to candies and themed confections—has also reopened, but not as another sweets stop. That storefront closed in February, and since then, crews removed its signage and awnings, replacing them with bold, neon-style graphics that scream retro Universal.

Universal Sweets will be opening shortly.

The new exterior features classic nods to E.T., Jurassic Park, and Jaws, accompanied by bright window visuals celebrating 35 years of Universal Studios Florida. A fresh marquee above the doors reads “Universal Studios Florida – 35 Years,” marking a clear tribute to the park’s legacy.

And starting today, this revamped space is open to guests as an expansion of the Universal Studios Store.

Currently, the interior retains some visual partitions as final touches are added, but guests can enter and browse select merchandise themed to the 35th anniversary, with more expected to roll out over the coming weeks.

More Than Just a Shop Swap—Why This Matters

These dual reopenings may seem like minor adjustments in the shadow of Epic Universe’s grand debut, but they’re part of a larger, calculated shift in how the theme park giant engages guests.

Aaaaaaaand Universal Sweets is now open!

Replacing On Location with a dedicated sweets shop capitalizes on the social media-fueled trend of snackable visuals and colorful “Instagrammable” moments. It’s not just about selling candy—it’s about giving guests a themed experience that ties into their emotions and memories.

Meanwhile, the reimagining of Studio Sweets into an expanded, retro-themed merchandise space ties directly into Universal’s brand legacy. It’s a smart blend of past and present, designed to stir nostalgia while encouraging new purchases.

This move signals Universal’s long-term strategy: to enhance guest experience through immersive storytelling—even in retail spaces.

What’s Next for Universal Studios Florida?

Today’s openings show that Universal isn’t just focused on Epic Universe. While the new theme park is undeniably the centerpiece of the resort’s growth, Universal Studios Florida is quietly undergoing its own glow-up.

Expect more of these subtle but impactful transformations throughout the year as the park continues to refine its image during its milestone 35th anniversary celebration.

If you’re visiting the resort this summer, make sure to carve out time for both Universal Sweets and the revamped Studios Store location. These new spaces not only offer a visual treat—they help tell the story of a park evolving to meet the modern guest’s expectations.

Final Thought: A Sweet New Chapter Begins at Universal

While Epic Universe may dominate the headlines, Universal Studios Florida is making its own quiet splash—one that tastes a little like candy and a lot like nostalgia.

With Universal Sweets and the expanded Universal Studios Store now officially open as of today, May 22, these new experiences are more than just replacements. They’re signals of Universal’s creative momentum and their continued commitment to surprise, delight, and evolve.

So next time you step into the park, don’t just rush toward the rides. Look around. You might just stumble upon the sweetest surprise of your visit.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
