Universal has been on a remarkable — and relentless — expansion streak. Following years of anticipation, its Florida flagship, Epic Universe, finally opened in May, and despite the fanfare, the biggest surprise may still be yet to come.
In Orlando, Epic Universe emerged in spring as Universal’s boldest venture yet — a sprawling, intricately themed park anchored by five distinct immersive lands: the electrifying SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, the eerie Dark Universe, the enchanting How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, the magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and the lush, serene Celestial Park.
Guests and critics alike have lauded attractions like Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, and Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment.
The park even secured multiple Golden Ticket Awards in its debut year, managing to displace Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance out of the Best Dark Ride spot. Future expansions are already rumored, with a recent development behind Stardust Racers sparking theories that these changes are right around the corner.
A New Identity for Bedfordshire
Now, far from Orlando’s glow, another marquee attraction is quietly taking shape. This year, Universal confirmed plans for a signature theme park in Bedfordshire, promising to deliver nearly £50 billion to the UK economy by 2055.
The park was previously referred to as Universal Studios Great Britain or Universal Great Britain in past domain registrations. But as of September 8, it seems like the park has a new name.
A new trademark — Universal United Kingdom Resort — has been filed, cementing the park’s branding as a hub of iconic British IP.
According to the BBC, the Bedfordshire park is expected to integrate beloved British cultural icons — James Bond, Paddington, and The Lord of the Rings — as central themes. Rumors even suggest the inclusion of Harry Potter attractions, despite earlier assumptions that the park’s proximity to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter made this impossible
Construction is anticipated to begin as early as next year, with an opening projected for 2031.
But not all reactions have been warm. Local residents have raised concerns over traffic, environmental impact, and long-term changes to the region. As Universal moves forward, balancing ambitious global branding with community sensitivities will be as critical as the rides themselves.
