Universal Orlando Says No to Summer Tribute Store: Opens Private Retail Location Instead

The End of the Tribute Store as We Know It?

It started with whispers, then hints. Now, Universal Orlando Resort has quietly unveiled something unexpected—but there’s a catch.

The image captures the iconic Universal Studios globe, featuring a large, rotating Earth with "UNIVERSAL" in bold letters. Palm trees and buildings rise in the background under a clear blue sky. The globe, set amidst a misty fountain, hints at the excitement of Epic Universe to come, along with Universal Horror Unleashed, next to Disney World.

Universal Orlando Resort: An Old Location with a New Purpose

Visitors to Universal Studios Florida may have noticed something new tucked behind a familiar façade. Once a lively stop for discounted props and nostalgic merchandise, the Williams of Hollywood storefront now hides an exclusive new retail experience. But blink, and you might miss it—especially if you’re not part of Universal’s inner circle.

So what’s behind the door that only team members and annual passholders can open?

Once home to the quirky and beloved Brown Derby Hat Shop, known for its eclectic prop displays and markdown bins, this corner of Universal has undergone a quiet transformation. The newly opened space is not advertised on the map and isn’t marked with fanfare. Instead, it’s subtly billed as a clearance store with up to 60% off, accessible only by flashing your Universal Orlando Annual Pass or employee ID.

But there’s more than just cheap T-shirts here.

While its previous version down the street at the Brown Derby Hat Shop served as a hidden gem for bargain hunters, the new location takes things to a new level. With extended hours until park close and significantly more space, Universal has created an immersive discount experience that’s as much a tribute to the resort’s past as it is a treasure trove of deals.

A Tribute to Tribute Stores?

Step through the doors, and nostalgia hits like a wave. Though this isn’t an official Tribute Store, it certainly feels like one. Themed decor lines every wall: banners from Halloween Horror Nights, signage from past Mardi Gras events, and even props featuring beloved characters like Earl the Squirrel and Major Sweets.

There’s even Bill and Ted’s phone booth—a throwback to the fan-favorite show—and props like a “Welcome to Duloc” sign from the now-closed Shrek 4-D attraction. Each room tells a story through decor, props, and merchandise displays. From Universal Monsters and Jurassic Park to Harry Potter and Minions, the store plays like a highlight reel of Universal’s themed eras.

And no, sadly, the props aren’t for sale—but the memories are free.

Deals Too Good to Keep Quiet

If you’re lucky enough to gain access, you’ll find discounts that make this store a must-stop for Universal insiders. Apparel from the “Love is Universal” collection, Hogwarts house gear, last year’s Mardi Gras souvenirs, and even Loungefly bags line the shelves, many marked down even beyond the posted 60% off.

While some merchandise comes from seasonal events and prior collections, other items are more general, such as swimwear, Christmas decorations, and summer apparel—each surrounded by remnants of past seasonal offerings. Plushes hang from overhead décor, newspapers mark the grand opening of Universal Studios Florida, and a Legends of the Bayou bumper sticker winks at this year’s Mardi Gras theming.

What Does This Mean for the Summer Tribute Store at Universal Orlando?

Universal fans know to expect a Summer Tribute Store—it’s become a seasonal staple. But here’s the catch: the new clearance store occupies the exact same footprint as last year’s summer tribute offering. That’s led to growing speculation online about whether Universal is skipping the tribute store this year altogether.

Team Members on-site haven’t confirmed how long the new store will remain open, adding fuel to fan theories. Could this be a one-time seasonal perk for loyal passholders and employees? Or does it signal a shift in how Universal will handle special event spaces moving forward?

At a time when many major theme parks are being scrutinized for value and guest satisfaction, Universal’s decision to reward passholders and team members with an exclusive, richly themed shopping experience sends a loud message: loyalty matters. It’s not just about discounts—it’s about making you feel like a VIP in a world that often feels overcrowded.

While it might not be open to everyone, the store has become a new kind of must-see attraction, especially for longtime fans who appreciate Universal’s knack for blending storytelling with retail. So if you’re a passholder or team member, make sure your ID is ready—you just got access to one of the best-kept secrets in the park.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
