Universal Orlando Quietly Shuts Down Key Attractions During Spring Break Surge

Spring break crowds are rolling into Universal Orlando, and if you’re planning a visit this April, you’re probably expecting packed walkways, long lines, and that high-energy park atmosphere. What you might not be expecting, though, is how a few key closures could quietly shape your entire day.

At first glance, it doesn’t seem like a huge list. There aren’t dozens of attractions down, and nothing screams “major disruption.” But once you look a little closer, you start to see how these closures stack up—especially depending on where you spend most of your time.

Over at Epic Universe, Yoshi’s Adventure is scheduled to close for a short window from April 21 through April 23. It’s a brief closure, but even something this small can shift crowd patterns in a newer park. Guests who planned to ride it will head elsewhere, and that redistribution tends to push wait times higher across nearby attractions.

The bigger impact, though, is happening at Islands of Adventure.

Jurassic Park River Adventure has been down since early January and won’t return until mid-November. That’s a long-term closure for one of the park’s most recognizable rides. On top of that, Pteranodon Flyers is also unavailable and isn’t expected to reopen until mid-May.

What makes this situation stand out is the location. Both rides sit in the same general area, meaning that section of the park is operating with fewer experiences than usual. When that happens, the remaining attractions—especially VelociCoaster—take on even more demand.

That’s where you’ll likely feel it the most. Longer waits, more crowd buildup, and a slightly more hectic atmosphere than you might be used to in that part of the park.

There are also a couple of non-ride closures worth noting. Me Ship, The Olive in Toon Lagoon will be closed from April 19 through April 25, which could impact families looking for a place where kids can burn off some energy. And over in Universal Studios Florida, Finnegan’s Bar & Grill remains closed with no clear reopening date yet.

None of these closures alone will define your trip. But together, they create small pressure points throughout the resort.

And during spring break, those small changes can feel bigger than expected.

The key is going in prepared. Know which attractions are unavailable, adjust your priorities, and stay flexible throughout the day. If you do that, you’ll still have plenty to enjoy—and maybe even avoid some of the frustration that catches other guests off guard.
