Guests found themselves stranded at over 150 feet in the air yesterday at Universal Orlando Resort.
Of all the rides at Universal Orlando Resort, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is arguably the most visually intimidating.
The towering roller coaster dominates the Universal Studios Florida skyline, reaching a height of 167 feet before plunging into a 65-mile-per-hour drop. Its bright red track and vertical lift hill make it one of the park’s most recognizable thrill rides.
What sets Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit apart is its unique musical feature. Riders can select a personal soundtrack from a catalog of songs, creating a customized experience with every ride.
These song options were slashed in number in 2023, dropping from around 30 songs to just five:
- “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance
- “Humble” by Kendrick Lamar
- “Sandstorm” by Darude
- “Waterloo” by ABBA
- “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” By Shania Twain
First opened in 2009, the attraction has become a staple for adrenaline seekers visiting Universal Orlando Resort. However, it’s now nearing its final days. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is set to close forever on August 18, meaning tomorrow is its last day of operation.
Universal hasn’t confirmed its replacement. Fans have theorized that it may be a Ghostbusters–themed attraction. Whatever the theme, Universal has already started on its newest attraction, with construction underway around the still-operating roller coaster.
Judging by a recent incident at Universal Studios Florida, this closure can’t come soon enough for some fans.
Guests Stranded on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
As Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit nears its final days, some of its last riders experienced a scary situation yesterday.

“Apparently it was stuck for at least 10 minutes,” said one Reddit user who witnessed the incident.
They added: “I know this ride hasn’t gotten stuck at the lift hill in a long time but it seems like a fitting send off considering this ride is known for having other issues. The fear of getting stuck at the lift hill and the roughness are major reasons I don’t go on this ride.”
As per other guests, it also got stuck the previous day “in the heat and at the top of the hill.”
This has become a recurrent issue for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit over the years. While all Universal roller coasters are intimidating in their own right, the attraction’s vertical ascent into the sky is a particularly scary place to get stuck on an attraction.
This has put plenty of guests off riding the attraction over the years. “There is quite literally nothing universal could do to make it up to me if I got stuck there,” wrote one Universal fan on Reddit. “I don’t think I’d remain conscious for very long. Literally one of my biggest fears.”
