Universal Orlando Sees New Filing, Leading to Fans and Guests Speculating

A quiet piece of paperwork has the theme park world buzzing—though at first glance, it seemed like nothing more than an administrative form. For guests strolling through Islands of Adventure today, the parks feel familiar, but behind the scenes, subtle movements could soon reshape one of the resort’s most recognizable areas. Which iconic land might be next for major changes, and what could it mean for visitors?

For Universal fans, the question is unavoidable: is a piece of park history about to vanish, or is it being reborn for the future?

Clues Hidden in Plain Sight

Universal Orlando recently filed a new Notice of Commencement (NOC) with Orange County, signaling the start of pre-construction work within Islands of Adventure. The filing names PCL Construction as the contractor and labels the work as “Pre-Construction Services.” While the details are vague, insiders note that such permits typically precede demolition, refurbishment, or major structural changes.

The mystery? Universal has not disclosed which land or attraction is involved. The lack of specifics has sparked rampant speculation among fans and bloggers alike. Could it be The Lost Continent, long rumored to be undergoing a transformation? Or might it relate to the extensive 2026 refurbishment for Jurassic Park River Adventure, an original park staple?

Which Lands Are Under the Spotlight?

Three areas have emerged as the primary suspects for major changes:

  • The Lost Continent: Possibly the most likely candidate due to its location and aging attractions. Universal has already acknowledged “construction activity” here, making it a top contender.

  • Toon Lagoon: Another older land with strong potential for reimagining or redevelopment.

  • Marvel Super Hero Island: While still highly popular, ongoing licensing arrangements and the park’s evolving strategy could influence future plans.

Guests may have to savor the charm of these areas while they still can—change seems imminent.

A Bigger Picture for Universal Orlando

The filing isn’t just about individual attractions; it hints at a broader, strategic vision for the resort. Universal Orlando has been aggressive in its expansion, and the news isn’t limited to Islands of Adventure.

Just six months after opening, Epic Universe is already preparing for its first expansion phase. The resort recently confirmed “exciting additions” will be coming, reinforcing the idea that Universal is positioning itself for long-term growth and aiming to stay competitive in a booming Florida theme park market.

Such moves suggest that Universal is balancing two priorities: preserving guest experiences in its current parks while making room for new, immersive worlds. The permit in Islands of Adventure could signal a major shift in how fans will experience the resort over the next decade.

Why This Matters for Guests

Any pre-construction activity within Islands of Adventure affects more than just the immediate area. For visitors, these changes could mean:

  • Altered guest flow and crowd distribution

  • Temporary closures or reroutes in familiar lands

  • Fresh attractions and themed experiences replacing older ones

  • A more modernized, competitive resort overall

Universal has not confirmed which land will be impacted, but permits like this are a strong indicator that planning is well underway. When Universal takes this step, it almost always points to a big reveal down the line.

For theme park enthusiasts, it’s a reminder that even when the resort feels static, behind the scenes, bold transformations are always in motion.

Looking Ahead

As the pre-construction process continues, fans should watch closely for any updates or announcements from Universal Orlando. The resort is clearly preparing to evolve, and while details remain under wraps, it’s certain that Islands of Adventure—and potentially the broader resort—will look very different in the years ahead.

The suspense is building. Which land will undergo its next big transformation? Only time will tell, but the story is far from over.
