A Surprising Wave of New Experiences Is Heading to Universal Orlando Resort

2 Locations Are Closing Forever

For years, Universal CityWalk Orlando has been more than just a dining and shopping district—it’s been the emotional heartbeat of a Universal vacation. Long after the parks close, guests continue their experience here, reliving favorite moments, discovering hidden gems, and creating new traditions.

That’s exactly why even the smallest changes at CityWalk don’t go unnoticed. Fans who return year after year develop a deep connection to its offerings, from late-night snacks to themed stores filled with nostalgia. When something shifts—even quietly—it often sparks conversation across the theme park community.

Recently, guests have begun noticing subtle transitions taking place throughout CityWalk. Some locations are preparing to close, others are evolving, and there’s a growing sense that something bigger is unfolding just beyond the surface.

Fans Are Noticing a Shift as CityWalk Begins to Transform

Over the past several months, longtime visitors to Universal Orlando Resort have started picking up on a pattern: familiar spaces are quietly being reimagined.

Fans are noticing closures and construction walls appearing in areas they’ve come to know well. These changes, while not entirely unexpected, have created a sense of curiosity—and in some cases, concern—about what might be coming next.

CityWalk has always evolved alongside the parks themselves, but this current wave of updates feels more intentional. Guests are already reacting online, speculating about what Universal could be planning as it continues expanding its footprint in Orlando.

A Fan-Favorite Experience Is Finally Making Its Return

A surprising change is now bringing a sense of excitement back to longtime fans.

Universal Orlando has confirmed that the beloved Universal Legacy Store will return to CityWalk later this April. The store, which quickly became a must-visit location for nostalgic fans, originally closed in January 2024 after less than three years to make way for a new experience.

Its return signals something deeper than just another retail reopening—it represents Universal leaning into its own history in a meaningful way.

The Legacy Store is expected to feature exclusive retro merchandise and immersive photo opportunities inspired by iconic franchises like E.T., Jaws, Back to the Future, and the Universal Monsters. For many guests, this isn’t just shopping—it’s a chance to reconnect with the stories that made Universal what it is today.

Dining Changes Signal a New Era for CityWalk Offerings

The transformation doesn’t stop at retail. A major shake-up is also coming to CityWalk’s dining lineup.

Guests are already reacting to news that the Burger King Whopper Bar will close on April 21, marking the end of a long-standing quick-service option in the district. In its place, a new Five Guys location will open later this summer, offering made-to-order burgers and fries.

While some fans may feel nostalgic about the outgoing location, others are welcoming the change. Five Guys brings a strong reputation for quality and customization—two things that increasingly matter to modern theme park visitors.

This shift highlights a broader trend: Universal is prioritizing recognizable, high-demand dining brands that align with evolving guest expectations.

A Major Entertainment Venue Is Set to Change the Atmosphere

Looking even further ahead, Universal is preparing to introduce something entirely new to CityWalk—and it could reshape the entire nighttime experience.

Country music star Luke Combs, in partnership with Opry Entertainment Group, will bring a large-scale entertainment venue to the waterfront in 2027.

This isn’t just another restaurant or bar. The upcoming space is expected to feature live music, food, drinks, and a high-energy atmosphere that extends beyond what CityWalk currently offers.

For guests, this means more reasons to stay longer after park hours—and potentially a shift in how CityWalk positions itself as a nightlife destination.

What These Changes Could Mean for Guests Moving Forward

Taken together, these updates paint a clear picture: CityWalk is entering a new phase.

Fans are noticing that Universal isn’t just replacing locations—it’s redefining the experience. By blending nostalgia (like the return of the Legacy Store), modern dining (with Five Guys), and immersive entertainment (through future venues), the resort is building something more dynamic than ever before.

For returning guests, this means a mix of the familiar and the unexpected. For first-time visitors, it creates a more polished and diverse destination that extends the theme park experience well into the night.

Universal has confirmed that more details are still on the way, and if these early announcements are any indication, CityWalk’s transformation is far from over.

As anticipation builds, one thing is certain: guests will be watching closely to see what comes next—and how these changes will shape their next visit.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
