Universal Moves Forward With New Epic Universe Attraction Plans

Something subtle just happened at Epic Universe, and it’s the kind of update that’s easy to miss unless you’re really paying attention. But once you take a closer look, it starts to feel like the beginning of something much bigger.

Universal Orlando has officially filed a permit tied to a “future attraction” at the park. That alone is enough to get fans talking, but the details behind the filing make it clear this isn’t just routine work or a quick fix happening behind the scenes.

The permit is connected to a backstage location at Epic Universe—specifically 4700 W Sand Lake Road. That’s important, because when construction starts backstage, it usually means Universal is preparing something long before guests ever see visible changes inside the park.

And the work described in the permit isn’t small.

As shared by WESH reporter Shane Winsten:

“The permit, found by WESH reporter Shane Winsten, is for site work:

Mass grading, utility points of connection, and re-routes for early work purposes of a future attraction known as Project 680.”

That’s the kind of language you see at the very start of a major project. Before buildings go up. Before ride systems get installed. Before anything gets announced publicly.

This is step one.

What makes this even more interesting is the timing. Epic Universe hasn’t even had that long to settle in as Universal’s newest park, and yet the company already appears to be pushing forward with something new.

That tells you a lot about Universal’s mindset right now.

Instead of waiting years to expand, they’re moving quickly to keep momentum going. And that matters in a theme park landscape where guests are always looking for what’s new, what’s next, and what’s worth coming back for.

The project name—“Project 680”—also stands out. That’s not something we’ve seen tied to any previously announced plans, which strongly suggests this is a completely new addition that hasn’t been revealed yet.

So what could it be?

Right now, there’s no official answer. But based on the scale of the work, this doesn’t feel like a small attraction. It feels like something that requires serious infrastructure and space—possibly even something on the level of a headliner experience.

And that lines up with how Epic Universe was designed.

This park wasn’t built to stay static. It was built to grow.

Universal clearly left room to expand, and now it looks like they’re starting to use it. Whether this ends up being a new ride, a land expansion, or something entirely different, the important takeaway is that Epic Universe is already evolving.

And for guests, that’s a big deal.

Because it means the park you visit this year might not be the same one you experience a couple of years from now. Universal isn’t just maintaining Epic Universe—they’re building on it.

Quietly. Early. And very intentionally.
