Universal Fans Brace for Possible End of an Opening Day Attraction

Universal Studios Florida is once again the focus of fan discussion, as attention turns to one of the park’s longest-running attractions. A new rumor has prompted fresh speculation, circulating widely online despite the absence of any official confirmation from Universal.

The park continues to balance newer additions with the classic Hollywood atmosphere that has defined it for decades. That mix gives Universal Studios Florida a distinct identity within the larger resort, even as guests flock to major thrill rides in neighboring parks.

Universal has retired most of its original lineup since opening in 1990. Only two opening day attractions remain in operation today — legendary dark ride E.T. Adventure and Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show.

Is the Horror Make-Up Show On Its Way Out?

A recent TikTok video has prompted new concern about the future of the Horror Make-Up Show. Posted by @funtimefreddyvlogs, the clip discusses reports that the opening day attraction may soon face either a complete replacement or a large-scale refurbishment.

The video struck a nerve among fans who view the show as one of Universal Studios Florida’s last remaining links to its earlier, effects-driven era. The live production, staged daily, demonstrates how make-up and special effects artists create classic horror characters.

“Featuring movie clips, props, and interactive demonstrations, this experience offers fascinatingly funny insight into the moviemaking process,” says Universal Orlando Resort. The description reflects the show’s long-standing format.

Over the years, the Horror Make-Up Show has changed only slightly, mostly to acknowledge digital effects and CGI. Many guests overlook it entirely, which is part of why the rumor has gained traction among longtime Universal visitors.

“The script has been word for word the same for 15 years,” wrote one TikTok user. “It wouldn’t cost a penny to let the team punch it up a little every now and then. letting fruit rot on the vine…” The critique resonated with fans who want the show preserved but updated.

Another user added, “I mean the video needs to be updated, the script should be updated a little, the lobby should show some newer movies.” Comments across the platform echoed a similar sentiment: the show has charm, but it feels frozen in time.

Fans Debate the Possibility of a Replacement

Much of the discussion surrounds a theory that a Five Nights at Freddy’s experience could replace the attraction. The franchise has been a notable part of Halloween Horror Nights in recent years, leading some to question whether it could transition into a permanent Universal Studios Florida presence.

“If FNAF takes this over that will be so sad,” one TikTok user said. “This show is fun cause the variety of people hosting it feels different and funny every time and there’s also a warm nostalgia feeling.” Many fans emphasized the show’s unique tone and flexibility, shaped by each performer.

Universal has not addressed any future plans. The park’s refurbishment schedule currently lists a closure for Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show beginning January 6, 2026, with no confirmed reopening date.

The timing has raised questions. Major closures at the resort — including Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and Shrek 4-D — were announced with more lead time, giving guests the opportunity to plan final visits. The lack of similar communication here has led some to hope for a modernization rather than a permanent shutdown.

For Universal Studios Florida, the outcome carries significance beyond a single show.

The Horror Make-Up Show represents a connection to the park’s earliest creative identity, built around movies, practical effects, and backstage techniques. An overhaul could preserve that spirit while bringing the experience forward.
