Universal Horror Event Historically Shatters Dress Code Policy
Spooky season just got an electrifying new twist. Universal Orlando Resort has officially dropped tickets for Halloween Horror Nights 34, and while fans are buzzing about the return of haunted houses, scare zones, and all the bone-chilling classics, one surprise announcement has everyone screaming — and not just from terror.
For the first time ever, guests will be allowed to wear costumes inside the event. But there’s a catch: it’s only happening during the exclusive Premium Scream Night on Thursday, August 28.
A First in HHN History
This marks a major shift in Halloween Horror Nights tradition. Historically, Universal has enforced a strict no-costume policy for regular guests during the event. The goal? To avoid confusion between costumed guests and scareactors roaming the park. But Premium Scream Night changes the game.
Introduced in 2024, Premium Scream Night is a limited-capacity, separately ticketed preview night held the evening before HHN officially opens. The event includes shorter wait times via staggered entry, all-you-care-to-enjoy food and non-alcoholic drinks, and complimentary self-parking — all for a premium price of $375 per ticket.
This year, it comes with the added perk of costume access, making it a dream come true for superfans who’ve always wanted to immerse themselves in the night as their favorite horror icons — or create a terrifying character of their own. According to Universal’s guidelines, while costumes are allowed, masks remain strictly prohibited in accordance with the resort’s Costume Policy.
A Unique Way to Experience the Horror

Set for the night of August 28, Premium Scream Night runs from 6:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., giving guests an extended evening to explore haunted houses, scare zones, and more — all before the general public. And with fewer people in the park, it’s as close to a VIP horror experience as you can get.
The costume announcement comes as part of today’s broader ticket launch for HHN 34, which runs select nights from August 29 through November 2, 2025. Regular tickets are now on sale, alongside multi-night passes and other add-ons.
Is Premium Scream Night Worth It?
If you’re wondering whether the $375 price tag is worth it, last year’s guests raved about the uncrowded feel and elevated experience. With the new ability to wear a costume — a rare and coveted opportunity — Premium Scream Night 2025 might be one of the hottest tickets of the haunt season.
Whether you’re a longtime HHN veteran or considering attending for the first time, there’s no denying that this year’s Premium Scream Night adds a brand-new layer of fun — and fright — to an already legendary event.
So grab your costume (just leave the mask at home), and get ready to scream in style.
