Universal Orlando Resort has taken a bold step forward by opening Stella Nova Resort, the first operational hotel in its highly anticipated Epic Universe resort area.
This dazzling new addition offers a glimpse into Universal’s ambitious plans to elevate its presence in the competitive Orlando theme park and hospitality market, putting Disney World on notice.
A First Look at Stella Nova Resort at Universal
Stella Nova Resort is the ninth hotel in Universal’s growing portfolio and the first of three properties set to open in the Epic Universe area this year. Designed to offer an affordable yet stylish experience, Stella Nova and its sister property, Terra Luna Resort (opening in March), will add 1,500 ultramodern guest rooms to Universal’s lineup, bringing its total to 11,000 rooms across 11 hotels by summer.

The hotel’s celestial theme is evident in its design, with vibrant teals and purples inspired by galaxies and stars. NASA-sourced imagery adds authenticity to the decor, while the exterior features over 140,000 reflective stainless steel tiles that shift colors depending on the light. According to Russ Dagon, SVP of Resort Development at Universal Creative, the intricate installation process has made Stella Nova one of the largest stainless steel-clad buildings in the world.
Despite being a Prime Value property, Stella Nova delivers a wealth of amenities. Guests enjoy perks like Early Park Admission, complimentary shuttle service to Universal’s parks, and resort-wide charging privileges. These features make Stella Nova an attractive option for families seeking value without sacrificing convenience.
The 750 guest rooms are designed with comfort and functionality in mind. Each room features double-queen beds, spaceship-inspired windows, and modern essentials like a flat-panel TV, mini refrigerator, and USB charging ports. The exclusive “Cosmic Ember” scented toiletries add a touch of uniqueness, while the Star Bridge on the third floor offers a whimsical photo opportunity for social media enthusiasts.
Dining options at Stella Nova include Cosmos Cafe and Market, which serves American favorites; the Galaxy Bar and Grill, offering poolside snacks and beverages; and Nova Bar, where guests can enjoy specialty cocktails in the lobby. Additional amenities include a game room, fitness center, and a Universal Studios Store stocked with exclusive Epic Universe merchandise.
A Bold Move Against Disney World
The opening of Stella Nova is a strategic play by Universal to position itself as a formidable competitor to Disney World. With an expanding portfolio of hotels catering to diverse budgets and tastes, Universal is capturing the attention of travelers seeking high-quality experiences at more accessible price points.
Dennis Quinn, SVP of Hotel Commercial Strategy at Universal Orlando, emphasized the resort’s appeal. “Guests will probably be drawn by the value price point alongside all the resort amenities we offer,” he said. This approach aligns with Universal’s broader goal of redefining hospitality in the Orlando market.
Preparing for the Universal Epic Universe Era
Stella Nova’s debut marks the beginning of a new chapter for Universal Orlando. As the first operational component of the Epic Universe resort area, it sets the tone for what guests can expect when the theme park opens later this year. With its innovative design, thoughtful amenities, and competitive pricing, Stella Nova showcases Universal’s commitment to creating memorable guest experiences.
While some areas of the resort are still under construction, including the roads connecting the North Campus to Epic Universe, the excitement surrounding Stella Nova is palpable.
