Disney World Announces Operational Pause in January 2026, Tickets Will Not Be Accepted

Walt Disney World Resort is suspending operations at one of its theme parks multiple times over the next week. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will cycle through closures and brief reopenings as frigid Central Florida temperatures make outdoor water attractions unsafe, leaving guests who bought tickets unable to use them on certain days.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park closed on Monday, January 12, and will remain closed through Friday, January 16, due to freezing temperatures and frost warnings across Central Florida.

A strong cold front will bring the coldest air of winter so far for some of us on Friday morning. A freeze will be possible across inland areas with 20s likely from Hernando County and north.

Walt Disney World Resort scheduled a Saturday, January 17, reopening with 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. hours, as temperatures temporarily improve. However, Disney guests planning water park visits shouldn’t celebrate yet—another operational pause begins immediately after that brief window.

On Thursday, Walt Disney World Resort updated its website, announcing that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will shut down again from Sunday, January 18, through Tuesday, January 20. The theme park is currently scheduled to resume operations on Wednesday, January 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

No Alternative Water Park Option

The situation worsens because Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park remains closed for seasonal refurbishment, unaffected by weather conditions. Walt Disney World Resort guests holding water park tickets during closure periods have zero alternatives.

February Typhoon Lagoon Refurbishment Adds More Downtime

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is facing an extended closure beyond the January weather disruptions. When Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park reopens February 15, 2026, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will immediately close for seasonal refurbishment.

Construction permits reveal that Walt Disney World Resort plans to rebuild the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide during the maintenance window. The reconstruction follows a lawsuit from a Disney Park guest who claimed severe injuries after experiencing a “painful wedgie” on the attraction.

The February operational pause will last significantly longer than weather-related January closures, keeping Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park offline through late spring.

Summer Guarantees Simultaneous Operations

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is guaranteed to reopen by May 26, 2026, when Cool Kid Summer season launches at Walt Disney World Resort. Both Central Florida Disney water parks will operate simultaneously from May 26 through September 8, ensuring guests who purchase water park tickets during peak vacation season will actually have facilities available to visit.

Disney Resort hotel guests checking in during the summer window will receive complimentary water park admission on their arrival day, adding value to on-property stays and guaranteeing access since both facilities will be operational.
