Tower of Terror Area Blocked Off, Surprise Demolition Begins
For the second time in just a few weeks, Disneyland Paris Resort has changed its iconic Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction. As demolition begins, the European Disney park has blocked guests from part of the ride building.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror first opened at Disney-MGM Studios (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) at Walt Disney World Resort in 1994. Walt Disney Imagineers later reimagined The Twilight Zone-themed attraction for Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort (2004), Tokyo DisneySea at Tokyo Disney Resort (2006), and Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris Resort (2007). In 2017, Disneyland Resort rethemed its version of the drop tower ride into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!.
Disneyland Paris Resort has also made several changes to its Tower of Terror, though it’s still themed after The Twilight Zone. In 2019, the European Disney park introduced The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – A New Dimension of Chills, with three distinct storylines for riders: The Malevolent Machine, The Shaft Creatures, and The 5th Dimension.
Weeks ago, Disneyland Paris Resort made a much smaller yet more controversial change to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. The retro curved television screen that plays the Rod Serling pre-show in the library scene was replaced with a flatscreen, removing some vintage nostalgia from the decades-old attraction. Disney Parks fans were frustrated that an original part of the ride was removed for, presumably, easier maintenance.
This week, Disneyland Paris Resort again stirred backlash from some of its fans with a change to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DLPReport shared this photo of construction walls surrounding a former FastPass+ kiosk building attached to the Walt Disney Studios Park attraction. Part of the structure was demolished in preparation for a new gift shop. “What is it with slicing off buildings?” the social media user asked.
🔧 At Tower of Terror, the top of the former FastPass distribution kiosk has been shaved off as it gets modified to become a shop. What is it with slicing off buildings?

Construction on the new Tower of Terror gift shop began last month, and the grand opening is expected later this year. However, Disneyland Paris Resort hasn’t announced an exact premiere date for the Walt Disney Studios Park merchandise location.
