Top Pros & Cons for Staying at Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World

Coronado Springs is one of Walt Disney World’s moderate resorts located on property.  This magnificent resort is going through numerous changes with many updates coming this summer.  Looking at some of these changes, we will discuss 10 pros and cons to staying at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

1. Con: Convention Resort

One of the cons that comes up when people look at Coronado Springs is that fact that it is considered Disney’s convention resort.  If businesses are wanting to hold meetings or conferences at Walt Disney World, Coronado Springs is one of the main areas that they will stay.  For some guests, this can be a con.  While on vacation, some guests dislike having business people around.

2. Pro: Convention Resort

Where some find Disney’s Coronado Springs being a convention resort as a con, others find it to be a pro.  Many of the above average accommodations offered by this resort is due to it being a convention resort.  From the variety of dining options to the fitness club, being a convention center allows Coronado Springs to offer more to their guests.  Many guests won’t even notice the business men and women around the resort, but they will enjoy the great service, dining and accommodations.

3. Con: Big and Spread Out

Coronado Springs is an expansive resort. It circles the beautiful Lago Dorado in the center of the resort. Many guests find it to be difficult to travel around Coronado Springs because of the size. Travel time to food and busing can take longer than many wishes to experience. For this reason, many guests find the size to be a con.

4. Pro: Lots to Explore

Although many might think the size of Coronado Springs as a con, we would suggest it as a pro.  The larger size allows more beauty and details to be used throughout the resort.  It provides a true escape for guests away from the outside world.  Guests can take time to walk, explore and discover throughout the resort.  We believe the size of the resort is a positive for guests wanting to feel immersed in the atmosphere of the resort.

5. Pro: Location

A huge pro to Coronado Springs is the location within Walt Disney World Property.  Even though it is listed as an Animal Kingdom resort, Coronado Springs is fantastically located between all four theme parks.  Guests have easy bus access to all four parks arriving quickly to their destination.

6. Pro: Theme

Disney’s Coronado Springs is based on a southwest theme.  The inspiration comes from that of Northern Mexico and the American Southwest.  Guests can experience Spanish influence throughout the architecture in the resort.  With beautiful water features, wonderful coloring and excellent attention to details, guests will feel like they have truly traveled to the south.

7. Pro: New Rooms

Part of Coronado Springs update and construction was the refurbishment of rooms.  These new rooms have gorgeous hardwood floors, beds that allow for storage underneath and an extended counter for working.  Disney also included more USB plug-ins making these rooms more tech friendly.  These new updates are a definite pro in our books.

8. Pro: Water Fun

Guests of all ages will love the Dig site, Coronado Springs’ pool complex.  Featuring a 50-foot pyramid, this Mayan themed pool is a favorite of guests.  At the Lost City of Cibola pool, guests can cool themselves off on the pyramid or take on the 123-foot-long Jaguar waterslide.  For a more relaxing time, guests can enjoy the largest hot tub on Disney property.  Up to 22 adults can fit into the hot tub for a relaxing time after a long day in the park.  If guests aren’t wanting a slide, they can head off to one of the quiet pools located throughout the resort.  All of the amazing water recreation offered at Coronado Springs is a pro in our books.

9. Pro: Fitness Center

Coronado Springs is the only moderate resort on Disney property to offer guests a fitness center.  Even though many guests believe that the miles they put in at the theme parks is enough exercise for the day, we think that a fitness center is a great pro for those wanting or needing to keep up with their training routines.

10. Pro: Dining

Fantastic food is easy to find at Coronado Springs.  Guests can find quick food at El Mercado de Coronado the newly updated quick service location.  Rix Sports Bar and Grill allows guests to sit and relax while catching a game, a quick drink and some food.  At Maya Grill, guests can enjoy fresh Tex-Mex options as well as classic American food.  Coming soon guest will be able to enjoy two new dining options.  Three Bridges Bar and Grill will be opening in July of 2019 offering sandwiches, salads and more.  Also opening in summer of 2019 will be Toledo a rooftop dining experience.  Toledo will offer small plates, steaks and numerous wines for guests while they take in breathtaking views high above the resort.  The variety of food choices offered at Coronado Springs is a big pro for us.

11. Pro: New Tower

Coming in July 2019 is the Gran Destino Tower.  This new tower will feature 500 rooms both standard and suites.  At 15 stories, this magnificent tower will bring new accommodations and dining to guests.  We believe that this new tower is a huge pro for staying at Coronado Springs.

Coronado Springs offers so much for guests staying there during their Walt Disney World vacation.  From beautiful theming to outstanding dining and pools, guests will be sure to fall in love with Disney’s Coronado Springs.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
