Disney’s Wilderness Lodge first opened on May 28 in 1994. It’s an absolutely beautiful rustic deluxe resort that celebrates nature, and the craftsmanship and décor of the Pacific Northwest. It is nestled amongst pine trees that grow high above you. If you decide to make this resort your home away from home during your Disney vacation, here are the top 8 pro tips for Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
8. Ride the Boats
You can take two types of transportation from this resort, a bus or watercraft. The boats won’t take you everywhere on Disney property, but they will take you to Magic Kingdom. We recommend taking the ferry instead of the bus to Magic Kingdom for a couple of reasons. Magic Kingdom is very close to Wilderness Lodge, so the boat ride isn’t very long, in fact it’s one of the shortest boat rides at Disney. They also run frequently, about every 10 minutes, making this a very convenient, and fun, way to get to and from Magic Kingdom.
7. Slow Down
Save the rushing around for the parks, and relax in style and comfort at Wilderness Lodge. This has got to be one the most cozy and laid back resorts at Disney. Because the lodge seems tucked away in the woods, it feels private and the cabin theming, complete with comfy leather chairs and fireplaces, makes it almost impossible not to just sit back and let the stress fall away. If you need more help relaxing or just want to pamper yourself a little, head over to the Sturdy Branches Health Club at Wilderness Lodge. Slowing down and relaxing also gives you a chance to enjoy the resort and take note of all the amazing details in the décor and the craftsmanship, such as the beautiful teepee chandeliers in the lobby, the totem poles, and the nature surrounding you. While you’re relaxing, don’t forget to look for Hidden Mickeys. If you need some help finding them, get a clue guide at the front desk.
6. The Pools
The pools at Wilderness Lodge are amazing. Silver Creek Springs, and Hidden Springs are the pools here, and not only are they heated, but they feel very private and removed from the hustle and bustle of the parks. Silver Creek Springs is situated amongst pine trees and boulders, and the waterslide is even built into the rock formation around the pool. There is also a kiddie pool and two whirlpool spas, which are ideal after a long day on your feet at the parks. If you get a little thirsty, head over to the cute little cabin, which is actually the Trout Pass Pool Bar. Time spent at the pool area of Wilderness Lodge, is time well spent.
5. Whispering Canyon Café
Whispering Canyon Café is just one of the fantastic dining options at Wilderness Lodge, and it’s perfect for those visiting with their family. This is a very family friendly atmosphere, where antics are pretty much guaranteed. The sassy cast members are sure to give your whole family a fun and memorable time, and there’s plenty to keep the younger members of your family occupied, like coloring, sing-al-longs and of course delicious food.

4. Artist Point
Artist Point is the signature restaurant at Wilderness Lodge, and is not necessarily as family friendly as Whispering Canyon Café, as it is a fine-dining restaurant with an award-winning wine list. If you are a fan of spectacular Disney dining experiences, this is a must-do. Artist Point boasts beautiful views of Silver Creek Springs Pool and Bay Lake. In addition to their amazing wine list, they have a delectable cheese board that is perfect for sharing, and to die for house made donuts.
3. Carol Wood Pacific Room
If you are staying at Wilderness Lodge you must find the Carol Wood Pacific Room and check it out. It holds some truly amazing Walt Disney history. The room is named for the railroad that Walt had in his backyard in California, and best of all, there are two of the train cars kept in this room! There are also photos, and train models on display to pay tribute to Walt’s love and fascination of trains. Guests can also play chess, read a book by the fireplace, or simply kick back and relax.
2. The Beach
Don’t skip the beach when staying at Wilderness Lodge. There’s a white sandy beach perfect for spending some down time with your family and loved ones. It’s quiet, has lounge chairs, kids can play on the playground and at night you can watch Disney movies under the stars. It’s also a perfect viewing spot for the classic Electric Water Pageant, which typically passes by around 9:30pm, but double check the timing with the front desk.
1. Visit at Christmas
If you will be visiting Disney during the holiday season (which begins in November at Disney), consider staying at Wilderness Lodge. This resort may just be one of the most beautifully decorated at Christmas. Many consider the Christmas tree at Wilderness Lodge to be the best at Disney. The lodge is illuminated with lights everywhere, and Christmas carols softly play in the background. It doesn’t get much better than being sitting in front of a fireplace at the cozy Wilderness Lodge in Disney during the most magical time of year!
