‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Sequel Shares Teaser, Jack Skellington Not Involved
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) is one of the most iconic holiday films of all time. However, unlike many other Christmas classics (Home Alone, The Santa Clause), and movies in general, it has been left untouched by sequels. Which is in no way a bad thing.
Directed by Henry Selick and co-produced by Tim Burton, the stop-motion animated film follows the character of Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon), the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who stumbles upon Christmas Town and plots to hijack the holiday. The movie also stars Christmas movie legend Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York) as Sally, the creation of a mad scientist named Doctor Finkelstein (William Hickey).

The 1993 Film Has Sequels in Other Media
The film has become a cornerstone of pop culture, particularly at Christmas time, when its merchandise floods shelves everywhere from local stores to outlets at all the Disney Parks.
Although a movie sequel is unlikely to happen — director Henry Selick and actor Chris Sarandon have expressed an interest in returning but Burton himself said in 2023, “It’s nice that people are maybe interested, but I’m not” — there are follow-up in other media, such as the New York Times best-selling YA novel “Long Live The Pumpkin Queen” by Shea Ernshaw, which was later adapted into a comic book.
Now, there’s another Nightmare Before Christmas comic book just around the corner.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Is Getting a Sequel
Earlier this year at NYCC, Dynamite Entertainment announced an official follow-up to the iconic 1993 film titled “Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town”. Here’s the plot synopsis for the upcoming four-part miniseries:
“The enigmatic Dr. Finkelstein, Sally’s creator, has another creation in the works. When he debuts an unusual, yet unexpectedly adorable creature as a new pet, Sally is tasked with taking care of it. Only for the three resident trick-or-treaters of Halloween Town to have it in tow as they embark on their journey to Christmas Town.”
Now, Flickering Myth has shared a preview of the first issue, which includes cover art, panels, and prose. But fans may be disappointed to learn that Jack Skellington is nowhere in sight as the story focuses on Sally, Lock, Shock, and Barrel. And unfortunately, Jack is indeed nowhere to be seen in the preview.

When Is The Nightmare Before Christmas Comic Out?
The first issue arrives on January 21, 2026.
“Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town” comes from writer Torunn Grønbekk (“Thor”, “Venom”), artist Edu Menna (“Army of Darkness”), Adriano Augusto, and Taylor Esposito, and will be published by Dynamite.
