EPCOT’s Test Track attraction is in the middle of a major transformation, and construction crews are hard at work bringing its next evolution to life. The beloved ride, which first opened in 1999, is undergoing its biggest overhaul yet, and Disney Parks fans are eager for updates.
A Look Inside Test Track’s Reimagining
During D23 Expo 2024, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that Chevrolet Test Track would be completely reimagined. Walt Disney Imagineers are again teaming up with General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent company and the attraction’s former sponsor, to bring fresh thrills to this 25-year-old World Discovery favorite.
Test Track has already undergone one major update. The ride originally opened as a simulation of real-world automobile testing, with guests strapped into test vehicles to experience rough terrain, extreme braking, and high-speed acceleration. In 2012, Disney introduced “Test Track 2.0,” which shifted the theme toward a sleek, digital “sim track” where riders could design their own futuristic concept car before putting it to the test.
Now, Test Track is evolving once again—but details remain scarce. Disney has confirmed that the “3.0” version, now officially called Test Track Presented by General Motors, will debut in late summer 2025, with new ride vehicles and a fresh interior experience.
Construction Progress So Far
While Disney hasn’t shared much about the ride’s storyline or mechanics, construction is moving full speed ahead. Earlier this month, Walt Disney Imagineering gave Disney Parks fans a behind-the-scenes look at the ongoing work with an Instagram video celebrating Women in Construction Week. The clip featured an Imagineer walking through the Test Track site, offering a glimpse at the attraction’s overhaul.

On Tuesday, WDWNT provided another update detailing visible construction progress on the Test Track building’s exterior. According to their report, crews have added weather-proofing materials to the entrance overhang, though final paneling and decorative elements have yet to be installed. Structural work appears to be the current priority, with scaffolding still surrounding much of the front of the building.
The old Test Track sign, which was removed last year, has yet to be replaced. Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for “new signage” in January, though it remains unclear whether this applies to the original sign’s location or a different spot near the attraction’s entrance. Meanwhile, construction walls remain up, and caution tape surrounds work areas as the EPCOT transformation continues.
