Disney Says Goodbye To Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, No More Chances To Ride
Disneyland Park guests hoping to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance have run out of time. The attraction closed on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, entering an indefinite refurbishment with no guaranteed reopening date.
Final Boarding Call for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance accepted its last riders on Monday, January 19, before shutting down on Tuesday for extended maintenance. Disneyland Resort hasn’t committed to when—or if—the attraction will return in its familiar configuration.

The park’s official website provides no reopening timeline and vaguely instructs disappointed guests to “check back” for future updates. The ambiguous language leaves open the possibility that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance could remain closed for weeks, months, or undergo such extensive changes that it essentially becomes a different attraction.
Timeline Transformation Drives Closure
The shutdown follows Disneyland Resort’s previously announced plan to radically alter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Earlier this month, Disney revealed that half of Batuu would shift to the original trilogy era, while the other half would remain anchored in the sequel trilogy timeline. The split-timeline approach launches April 29, 2026, at Disneyland Park, with Disney’s Hollywood Studios following on an unannounced date.

What specific modifications Disney has in mind for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance during this closure remains a mystery. The attraction could receive minor aesthetic tweaks to align with the timeline section it occupies, or Disney could implement fundamental story changes that affect the entire experience.
Last January, Disneyland Resort finally fixed a broken cannon effect that had been inoperable for over three years.
Oga’s Cantina Shutters Simultaneously
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance isn’t alone. Oga’s Cantina also locked its doors on January 20 for maintenance extending through early March 2026. The lounge will reopen with a revised backstory, positioning it as newly established rather than a long-running establishment.

The “Cantina Band” song from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) will be integrated into the bar’s music rotation when Oga’s Cantina returns, marking one of the few confirmed timeline-related changes Disney has publicly detailed.
Land-Wide Alterations Coming
First Order Cargo merchandise location will disappear entirely, replaced by Black Spire Surplus. The new shop is described as “a military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the galaxy,” selling Galactic Civil War memorabilia from the original Lucasfilm trilogy alongside existing sequel-era products.

Character interactions will expand dramatically when the transformation completes. Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader will roam Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, meeting guests—a significant departure from the land’s current character lineup focused on sequel trilogy figures.

I was never able to try either, and have been to Disney about a dozen times since the ride opened. It’s either always closed temporarily when I try to enter the lines or all available Genie plus or fast pass options were gone at before I woke up for the day. No problem, I have no interest in the Kathleen Kennedy projects and neither do any other lifelong Star Wars fans, so I have no regrets. It’s about time things shifted to the real Star Wars. I saw a Rey character last time and she had almost no interaction or interest from guests.
